Considering buying 2005 7 series

Be prepared to spend $$$$ when something goes wrong. Maintenance is very inexpensive when compared to repairs. Very high cost if ownership. Stay away from auctions. A history from previous owner is your best option. Be prepared for 3k-5k average per year at this point because of mileage unless you are mechanically inclined.

Thanks to everyone that provided insight on this for me. 85k miles at that pricepoint would be fine for me, no complaints there. Anyway, going to start checking them out at the end of the month, and if they are as nice as they seem I am going to try to score one at auction!

My price range is pretty open too.. I am hoping to spend around $14k, but if push comes to shove and one that really catches my eye pops up around $17-$18k with a nice history and low mileage I will definitely scoop it instead.

MrBMWX5 - What are you asking for your 06'? Just curious...the link you posted didn't work for me.

Also - for those of you thinking you can pick up a 750i or 750li with average miles for $14-15k at auction - you are sorely mistaken. They are still going for north of $20k for a "clean" one with mileage in the 60-70K range.

I have clean 04 745LI with 47K miles and tons of upgrades...for sale.

Hi new to the forum, I seem to be in same boat as you. We are thinking about getting a 745 also we drove a 05 this weekend and the wife loved it. I not concerned too much about the upkeep I was a Mercedes tech for 6 yrs before I got in to computers.
Couple questions I had I had a buddy that works on BMW tell me to go 05 to 07 on this body.
Are the 03 and 04 that bad?
Can a iphone adapter be added for under 500 in parts cheaper is better I dont mind tearing the car apart to add. We stream music with iphone so got to keep the wife happy.
Do they need to be put on the scan tool much are most problems mechanical ?
Does anyone make dvd headrest for this car or can you get the one for the console easy?

What is the best place to find these? Been looking on ebay and craiglist. I would rather buy from someone than a dealer.. Have bought from auction in the past but I know longer can get in.

Besides the repair bill i have 2005 bmw 745i i got it with 75k on it and now it has 100k just last week and she still rolling really smooth just make sure you keep up with the maintenance and you'll have a hell of a car!
