Speed limit detector

Doesn't this work on our X3? It's on page 76? I think in the owners manual it's supposed to display the speed limit on the road you are traveling on your screen. What the heck is this another European only thing???

You have to turn it on in iDrive. It's under something like Safety Assist or something like that.

What year is your X3? Earlier models didn't have it, but I think the latest iteration finally has it available in the US. I believe in iDrive, it can be activated or deactivated through "Settings", "Info Display", "Speed Limit Display".

Of course, your vehicle must have the option installed (it isn't standard equipment).

Mine was just built 2013 but the listing is not in the idrive under settings etc... It's not listed in there i just took delivery Monday... Do you think there is an upgrade needed? Do you guys have it on yours???

Maybe you have to have the Tech package?

Mine is 2013 also and it is not showing either.

I just checked and Speed Limit Warning is under Settings>Speed

But I don't think that is what OP is referring to. Displaying the speed of the road you are on is part of some Nav systems, but not the sucky BMW one.

It can be set by you, to warn you, when you have exceeded you're preset speed , that's it. In settings if you have it

Taking a look at the BMW USA Configurator (not necessarily the best of sources, but its something), I don't think there is the forward-facing camera that has the sign detection (incl. Speed limit and Overtaking prohibitions) for the X3 in the US, option code S08TH. This appears only available in the 3er for the time being.

A lot of this does have to do with the fact that the US uses non-standard signs and there may be limitations on how much info TeleAtlas has on speed limits in the US and Canada.

I would agree that I can not find the setting to turn it on. I am very disappointed about that it would come in handy.

Yes this is dissappointing. The original BMW USA press release for the 2013 model indicated that this feature was going to be part of the driver assistance package, but they later revised the press release to remove this.
