Add Bluetooth Streaming?

On other devices such as cell phones, I've seen an update add the ability to stream music through bluetooth. If I don't have the enhanced bluetooth package, is there something I can do to enable it or is it a hardware thing? Thanks.

Does your iDrive have Navigation? If so it is possible, and you are local it seems.

I do have the tech package (nav), just no BMW assist which I believe comes with the enhanced Bluetooth and USB... Is it something I just upload as an update? Thanks.

Streaming bluetooth adapters are cheap from third parties, and easy to use, except that they are typically battery-driven and need to be recharged from time to time.

I got a Belkin Bluetooth car adapter from Amazon, it uses the lighter port, no batteries needed.

If its plugged into the lighter for power, how does it plug into the car to give it streaming bluetooth? Doesn't it need to plug into the usb port? Thanks.

It would plug into the mini audio port in the center console. Personally it's a very inelegant solution to me. You should PM Technic your info so he can see what is possible in the way of a software unlock of the functionality which is already in your car (just not programmed for it at the factory).

It connects to AUX

in response to technic. I have the technology package but without enhanced bluetooth or APPS. I live in CA however. Could this be done on my car?
