USB Indexing Time

First time posting here, been lurking for awhile.

Recently got a 2010 E92, and love it. I had an old iPod Classic I was using for music, and it integrated great into the iDrive system. But, that iPod was on its last legs, so I thought I'd just switch to a USB stick, rather than buying another iPod.

I tested a small 1GB stick in the center console with about 30 songs. After a moment, I was able to browse the stick just like an iPod (via Artist, Album, etc). Great, I thought!

So I bought the fastest 64GB USB stick I could find (knowing the indexing can take some time), and loaded it about half full with ~2300 songs. Now, with this stick I'm only able to browse the directory of music. The indexing of ID3 tags to enable browsing by Artist/Album/etc. never seems to complete.

I've made sure the drive is formatted as FAT32, and removed all the crufty files that Mac OS X litters on FAT32 disks. All of the files are 256kbps or lower MP3 or AAC songs.

Is there any way to check the status of the indexing? Does the indexing start over every time, if I power off the vehicle? Anyone ran into a situation like this? Any way to speed it up?

Thanks for the great forum!
