Tint effect on Head Up Display?

Hey guys i was wondering if the HUD will be affected by me tinting the front windshield of my 7? like, are there going to be any interference or HUD becoming lighter or something. Do any of you guys have your windows tinted?

In Florida it can be done if you have a state tinting permit via doctors filing a form with the state (i.e. not just a note from the doctor in the glove box)

That's nice. I had a black Lexus before, with 5% black tint front windows, 5% double tinted rears, and tinted top half of my windshield 15%. Luckily I never got pulled over for the 2 years of ownership, otherwise it would be a huge fine. The tint did a good job of keeping my interior cool.

Now with my 7, I only did 25% all around to have better visibility. But with the shades in the back, it keeps the sun away pretty good too.

I would susgest just do a clear UV blocking tint to the front windshield to avoid potential legal problems. As far as HUD, I don't think it would make any difference.

Or just get an Active Hybrid 7...all SIX windows are UV/Therman glass

Seriously, it should make no difference at all for HUD, but I think Individual is right. Get a clear or super light front tint. You want to block heat radiation, not darken the glass.

Also make 100% SURE the tint place has done and knows how to tint front windshields. I know many, many places here in L.A., will not even do front windows. And be sure there are no smudges, lint, dust.....When the sun shines while you are driving, you will SEE every little defect glued under the tint film & it will drive you nuts!! For me, that would be worse than some heat coming thru the glass!!

The HUD reflects off the windshield, it is an optical illusion that it appears out over the hood. so the tint should not affect the hud

I took my car to the dealer thinking that HUD is not working anymore. Turned out, it was my polarized sunglasses.

I believe the windshield is part of the HUD system being "the combiner" so, a tinted combiner will reduce image intensity and may in effect, affect the sharpness of image (some level of distortion) projected through a metal film, mylar or other tint material. YRMV

OP hurry up and get the tint done, tell us your results pre and post windshield tint.

same question here, i am not sure, planning to get a air blue 80 on the windshield but i have a 2013 f10 with headup display.
I know for a fact that the windshield part numbers are different on x5 the one with head up display and the one without.

Yup, the cars equipped with HUD's have a different windshield and that's why BMW recommends that you use a BMW dealership for HUD equipped cars if you need to replace your windshield because a normal windshield will not work with the HUD.

I know this is very late, but did you go with Air Blue 80 for your X5 windshield? I am looking to do this later today and want to avoid any complications with my HUD although a more recent thread from actual users claim the HUD is sharper post-tint.

Its works fine, I got tint done in the front, the HUD seems to be fine, its been over a year now.
I first got carbon ceramic and since my dashboard is beige, it was so annoying, basically all i could see was my dash board due to the reflectivity . But i got it switched to Pinnacle Formula 1 which cut 80% or so in heat but is not as reflective, and what an improvement it was

Here is a pic on how it looks, i have same tint on the rangerover and the bmw but rangerover has black interior and also comes with polarized sort of windhield, hence the purple tint i am told.

Before

After

Hope this helps
