F10 TPMS PSI/Temp Data - Working or Not

I've literally activated every option related to tires I could. I've turned off TPMS and turned on FTMS. I've had both of them on at the same time. I've seen more errors and codes flash up on my dash than I care to see. I've swapped out my current wheels with my stock wheels to see if anything would show up even though both sets have BERU sensors in them. Nothing but the dashes, the labels and green tires.

Zilch, zip, nada when it comes to actual readings...pure frustration. I've pretty much given up since there is no specific trigger or pattern to why it doesn't work. It's just random and I don't like random.

Could it be tied to having different sized wheels (front to back) or the tire brand?

I hear you Sean. I did the same and got no results.

As for wheels, I have OEM 18". Same size back and front. Never changed.

I bought 17" rims with all-season/winter tires from TireRack and included the sensors.

Coded the TPMS with them mounted...works great with pressure and temperature accurately displayed.

Remounted original BMW wheels with summer tires last week. Display works fine after TPMS reset.

(I need to confirm, but I think this set of sensors is not nearly as accurate as the set from TireRack.)

Just coded a post 09/10 2011 535 and it worked like a beauty within the first 50 feet of driving. I think it is safe to assume that all 2011 F10 before 09/10 do not have the right hardware to allow pressure and temperature to display.

As for the 2012s we have here, I have no clue as to why it doesn't work. But I have yet to witness a pre-09/10 car work.

Better late than never. I finally coded the TPMS today and it works. The front left is about 7 deg F hotter as others have reported and the pressures track my handheld gauge within 0.5 psi.

Code HU_CIC / 3001 EXBOX - RDC_SAFETY = aktiv / Werte=01.

It's for TPMS, and not FTMS.

I'm not sure from memory on HI_CIC / 3001EXBOX - RDC, although I would think so.

TPMS is Tire Pressure Monitoring System, aka Reifen Druck Control (RDC) and FTMS is Flat Tire Monitor System, aka Reifen Pannen Anzeige (RPA). If your valve stems are rubber instead of metal, you have FTMS. FTMS operates on tire rotational speed and has no actual sensors to measure pressure and temperature.

Attached are two photos of the metal tyre valve. Is the correct one?
Also atttached is photo of the Tyre status, It is displaying "Flat Tyre Monitor Active". Is this correct?

The Stems look rubber and the display reads FTM Active, so I don't think you have TPMS.

TPMS would read TPM Active.

I have gone out on a limb, expecting to be lucky and get the TPMS working; No such lic; I went and picked up, and had installed part# 36 10 6 856 227 in each tire.

I had turned one what appears to be the one value related to this; and no luck; The tires are all green, display "--" where they should be a number. I drove for about 25km on them, hiway and no luck;

Like other comments I have seen, even after turning on TPMS, the screen still shows "flat tire monitor active"

it sounds like it should not be doing that? any idea's how to change this?

also; any way to confirm that these cars have the required receiver in the wheel well? visually?

if someone can send a picture of what to look for with this part, I can see if I can find it in my car, maybe they didn't install the receiver and hence the trouble?

I am guessing this is a software issue. I had my car coded and had the TPMS PSI/Temp Data working. Then, I took the car in in July and had the Global update done. The update wiped out all of the prior coding. When I had it recoded the TPMS data came up with the dreaded ---. Ugh. It appears that it depends on what version of software you have whether or not you can activate this feature.

This is so odd!
I'm thinking there is a new feature somewhere that we need to find/activate for this to work; maybe they moved it around.. I wish I new german, so I could hunt through the list and see... I have a good friend who speaks German, but hs is a 2 hour drive (each way) away - I'm going to see if he can spend the day, and hunt through those menu's with me

That sucks. I love having this capability. Now I'd have to think twice about getting a software update.

This only works with TPMS, Option 2VB.

1) Go to www.bmwvin.com and put your Short VIN in an make sure you have 2VB.

2) Assuming you have 2VB, make sure the following is coded:

ICM:
IcmKod_B_SA2VB = verbaut

CIC:
RPA_CIC = nicht_aktiv
RDC = aktiv
RDC_SAFETY = aktiv

If you do not have 2VB (TPMS), RPA_CIC (FTMS) should be aktiv, and PSI/Temp will not work.

If you have 2VB, and all the above coding is correct, and you still do not have PSI/Temp, your screwed.

Ohh; looks like I'm out of luck! If I read this properly, I dont have that? wish I had check that before buying all the TMPS stuff!

If you read it the same way I do, and the 2VB option is in fact not listed in that list, have you ever seen anyone add the missing parts to make this work? (is that possible) - I'd be willing to spend a bit more if there was some good idea on what a parts list etc

You have a very impressive list of options, including NVE, but for some reason BMW blessed Canadians with FTMS instead of TPMS.

The Dealer option codes look the same to me (drop the first and last digit from the BMWVin list), except the BMWVin list will always be complete whereas the dealer list is always selective.

The part you bought, that is just for the wheel assembly / valve stem? I suppose you cold try and retrofit the receiver piece, and then add 2VB to your VO and code you car and see if it works.

Hell. It looks like they made up for it though by giving you not one, but two KOMBI's.

Be sure to code both of them.
