I Drive Dead - Replacement???

Hi guys,

Few days back my I drive died, I took it to stealership and they confirmed that the CCC needs to be replaced. I have an 06 530 i with Nav, bluetooth cd changer, XM and logic 7.

I was looking on ebay and found multiple CCC units all with Different P/N numbers.
Does it matter what P/n number I am buying because I would have to recode the car to new ccc anyways. Just to give you guys an idea my unit has a number 6583 6987690 - 03. Attached pic.

Anyways dealer is asking for $1415 for part+labor+coding.

Not sure what is the best route for me. Buy it from ebay and get the car coded (if yes then can I buy any ccc drive ?) or should i just get it replaced at the dealer.

Would really appericiate inputs.

You can buy these from BMW for under 800 and install yourself. Then take back for coding.

Well, I finally Managed to get this replaced and saved a lot of money over what the dealer asked.

Dealers quote :
CCC - $900
Labor - $200
Coding - $300
grand total = $1400 + Tax

Here is what I did

Looked up my part number on Realoem. Contacted member Evan@Tischer bmw from Getbmwparts.com.
Installed my self in less than 20 minutes(dont know why the hell are they charging $200 for labor)
Got it coded from the bmw dealership .

CCC from getbmwparts.com - $685
Coding @BMW dealership - $240
Grand Total - $925 incl tax

Saved myself more than 500 bucks.

Do yourself a favor , If you happen to have a dead CCC do what i did and save a ton of money.

nicely done sir!!! - funny how they were charging 200 for 20 mins, like you said before. At least they always live up to their name though!!

It pays to research, willing to learn, and do some work.

For that much I would have paid more and gotten a CIC retrofit...

Well the problem is that the CIC retrofit costs much more than $900 or even $1400 for that matter. If it was $500 or $1000 more on top of 900 I would have done it.

I checked with a lot of people who are providing retrofit kits and it would have costed upwards of $2500 and that too for basic and it gets more expensive as you add stuff to it like controller , combox , panels. It didn't make sense for me to spend 3 grand on CIC when I am satisfied with CCC in my car. I would rather save that money towards my new car but to each its own.

I have the same problem with my 2006 530i. I took it to the dealer and they quoted me $1640. I want to follow your foot steps. I got a question:
I saw a used CCC on ebay. Even though it says it was taken down from a 2006 530i, but the part number is different from mine, Mine is 6583-6987690-3, which is the same as yours, but the one on ebay is 6583-6987690. I got a quote from my local BMW dealer's parts department and the part number they gave me is 6583-9123088. Based on your experience, does it matter if the part numbers do not match?

If you give them that part# using your vin# it came out ok is just an updated part. Used CCC has the vin in it so ISTA will reject coding

No used CCC it will be rejected by ISTA measures plan. install it and don't flash hope for the best. You need to used the part number that is the same as the original or what is in EKP and decoded using ASAP done by your friendly BMW parts specialist. The days of installing used modules are over and Fxx vehicles is much worse can't even swap for testing purposes.

I am not sure about this. Honestly never got an answer to my same question. MINI+BMWtech tech should be correct Go to realoem and try to find the part number for your model. In my case part number changed(my original part number was showing ended on real oem but they had listed another part number). I found one on ebay which had the same PN as mine but by the time i went to buy it , it was gone. So I ended up getting from getbmwparts.com

Thank you very much, MiINI+BMWtech and ankurg09, for your assistance. After reading your comments, I believe that the safest route to go is to acquire a CCC from the dealer or getbmwparts.com, but not from Ebay.

Np, you can acquire the CCC from Ebay as long as the part number matches. Also If buying from Ebay do take note of the warranty since its usually 90 days from certain sellers (if any). Factor that into price when buying, getbmwparts will give you 2 years warranty just like the one you will get from your dealer. My experience was getbmwparts was cheaper than what dealer offered but do your search with the part number online.I was able to find my original pn CCC for $350 but was sold by the time i got there to buy it .
