Welcome to the fest!
Here is a detailed DIY article on cooling system work, including removing the fan. http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...eplacement.htm Tell me, why are you replacing the fan? Did the car overheat? We STRONGLY suggest a complete cooling system overhaul/replacement every 70k-90k miles. If the car overheated, you may have far worse troubles than just a fan replacement.

engine fan e36
no it hasent overheated, while i was driving i heard a thunk type of noise. I popped the hood and noticed the fan had pulled the fan shroud back towards the motor and was stuck under the shroud and the upper radiator hose. Im not sure how this happened I just assumed the shroud came loose. I secured the shroud and now need to replace the fan due to it broke off 1 blade. my car has 165,000 on it. i dont know what has been done to it because it was purchased second hand. is there something i should be weery of?
