A Stereo harness for your system is quite labor intensive, as you will need to run wires to your trunk and back to your iDrive. Otherwise you will have to cut OEM wires and patch them up with extension wires to the trunk anyways so you can make the processor/amps connections there.

It is a shame that in 2012 BMW offers the Stereo system even in the F10.

That system is not available in the USA F10. We get the HiFi (7-channel OEM amp, 10-speaker system)
Thank you.

This means if i am unhappy with the standard system (US F10) I can go a head and do your suggested AMP switch out for better sound. Easy Peezy

I almost forgot all about the "guy like you" ....

Seriously - thanks

So the auto-tuning feature of the JBL makes it a better system than the premium and B&O OEM audio systems?

Any other way to check if we don't have the OEM amp ?
Like checking the trunk?

I am interested by Technic suggestion as I want an improvment in my hifi without the fuss of cutting and re-wiring. But if my car doesn't have the OEM amp then guess can't skip this road

I am based in Hong-Kong no idea about the standard stereo.
I saw that the brochure in BMW HK website mention a 4 channel amp.

Cheers

Better Audio without Premium Audio ?

I'm confused. Many of you are referring to Hifi as 10 speakers. According to the schematic I pulled from bmw it is 12 speakers. Two mids on the deck, two tweeters on the deck, two mids in front doors, two tweeters in front doors, two subs under front seats, and one tweeter and one mid in dash center. 12 speakers with 7 channel amp.

*edit: I see the BMW website states 10 speakers which explains a few things. However the technicians schematic I pulled for F10 states 12 speakers.

I too thought I only had 10 speakers, according to BMW site. But opened rear deck to see if there were tweets. Guest what? There are two tweets in back. Total of 12 speakers. I was excited.

HiFi used to be 10 speakers and 6ch OEM amp in both the 3- and the 5-Series for most of their production run. Until the Great Recession began and the cost-cutting got crazy.

For the F10 BMW kept 3 tweeters that were removed from the F30 HiFi (total of 9 speakers) so the F10 is 12 speakers and 7ch OEM amp now.

It is just 205W max, with IC chip amps and no big capacitors, inductors or transformers. It is designed to use the absolute minimum current possible, thus why it is so small. Its power cable is the same gauge as the OEM woofer wires. Go figure.

The MS-8 is about 40% bigger but with 480W max via IC chip amps (8ch), but that also includes a full DSP and acoustic calibration circuit.

I was thinking of 5,6,7 series' systems.

On cannot buy such all in one aftermarket combo amps. What class amp are BMW?

All BMW use the same OEM amp in their HiFi system, some with 6ch and some with 7ch. But the fundamentals are the same.

HiFi OEM amp is Class AB, AFAIK. The Harman Kardon and B&O are Class D.
