Red alarm light under rear view mirror on 335i

Looks like the red light at the bottom of my rear view mirror should blink to indicate an armed alarm status. At least that's what the owner's manual seems to imply. It's a 2011 335xi sedan with the compass mirror. My light is not working, am I missing something?

Do you actually have the alarm? You do not necessarily have the alarm if you have the red "clown nose" underneath the mirror. The 3-series does not come with an alarm standard.

It's a $400.00 special option. If you paid for that then you should have it.

Yes, there is a way to make it blink, even if you don't have the alarm installed. Can't remember where I saw this but it was most likely at e90post, possibly in the DIY section.

If you find that link, please post it. The dealer could make the light flash on the E46, but I have not heard of any way to make that happen on the E9x.

Mine doesn't blink either
I thought it was a sensor or something.

Looks like you need a little electronics/soldering expertise. This post is from 2006 so not sure if it's still applicable.

Electrical Engineering degree would help. Hang one of these in the car. About $4.00 at Radio Shack:

You can buy a remote key + module to make it flash as well. Mine works great.

It has a direct correlation to the times you are available to see the flash. My inside console flashes a red dot on the second, shouldn't the rear-mirror globe flash with a similiar flash?
