Track run #2: 1/4 mile times w/ Stage III

I suspect BMW's stock numbers are in general underestimated, but I believe BMW quotes minimum performance numbers since manufacturing variances will produce engines with different power levels; every engine does not leave the factory with the exact same horsepower.

I suspect two things in this data:

1) weights for published cars.
2) AWD launch advantage.

The AWD launch advantage can't be overlooked.

I think those two things are skewing the calculations a bit.

I'm not privy to their data sources and/or formulas, so please take my comments at face value.

1) These are the measured test weights. Which one(s) look wrong?
2) The theory is AWD affects elapsed time, but not trap speed. I think the RWD Dinan F10's are hitting the same trap speeds.

my buddy has a 550i x drive stock with 400 miles i used launch control in his 550i and it felt way way faster then my 550i but what im getting to i ran a 12'900 5500 Miles bone stock my friends 550i x feels way way faster to me cause its awd system with the launch control if you have dinan stage III with a muffler delete you should be atleast a 12'500

What procedure are you following for 'launch control'?

Welcome back. There are a couple of guys who put on Stage 3 without the exhaust, but I added the Dinan Exhaust when I added Stage 3. I personally don't fell any difference performance-wise, but the sound of the car is much improved in my opinion. It's not very loud, but it reminds me and lets others know the car has a sporting nature.

Sorry, I never got around to making a video. All I have is a cell phone and with past cars I've recorded, most of the bass is lost when using the phone. All I know is I'm not allowed to start the car in garage if Mrs Dunderhi is sleeping upstairs. It's not the noise, but it's the low-frequency vibration in the floor.

I agree, my times should be better, but I'm just not that good at launching the car which is hurting my times. Hopefully a few more trips to the track will help my time.

Nothing- the 550's don't have launch control....

Exactly, the procedure described is power breaking. It probably works close to LC with an AWD 550 due to the grip but with 400 hp + you will light up the tires on an rwd with traction control disabled. With proper LC the computer adjusts rpm,power and wheel spin for an optimal launch. Be aware that power breaking stresses the tranny, it will heat up.

That'd explain why I didn't read about it until now...strange - everything else I've read on the internet has been 100% accurate.........
