M44 Head
Did BMW make different heads for the M44 Engine? I need to replace the head on my 97 318i because it was cracked. When I pulled one from a 96 318, it looked the same and had the same stampings. However, the one from my 97 318i has additional holes just over 3/16" between the cylinders on the exhaust side and the one I pulled from the 96 doesn't. The holes line up to ones in the block that open into the water jacket around the cylinders. In fact the head gasket I just received today has the holes as well. Can I use the head I pulled from the 96 318 without these holes? Thanks. Ken.
