The V8 has had some good reviews, but the Mulliner-style interior in the Speed is gorgeous. My actual birthday present for the big five-oh will be the final payment on the mortgage.

Edit: Ooops, I guess I was on the computer a little too late at night. Yes, an Aston Martin V8 Vantage would be far more appealing to Mrs D than even the Bentley Continental GT V8.

I couldn't agree more, the decision to live debt free is one that contributes a lot to my own and my families happiness and stability. Excellent present and highly admirable indeed. Now, what car will you buy to celebrate such milestones .

Thanks guys. Over the years, we've bucked the refi trend, such that when we refi'd to lower rates, we also shortened the loan terms and increased the monthly payment each time. So we went from 30yrs to 15 yrs to 5 yrs. Now we are in the final push with about two years of double payments to go. So when I hit 50 and Mrs D who is an undisclosed number of years younger will be debt-free for the first time since our 20's. At that point we may just go on a cash basis for all purchases. The ridiculously expensive car probably won't happen until retirement and the commuting to work is no more.
