Calmly and with good intent, verify the unfortunate series of events so far, listening with interest to his explanation. Ask if there is any sort of fee you may pay to expedite delivery, with checkbook partially; strategically displayed.

Consider his answer - best if the sales manager's also involved, and if affirmative, open your checkbook; take the cap off your pen!

If there's nothing to be done, cheerily resign yourself and, mentioning that after speaking with them, you feel much better, look relieved and hopeful.

I would cancel and order from another dealership even if the car has shipped already just to screw the dealer over. I ordered my 335i on a Saturday and was given my production number that Monday where I was able to track online right away. From order to delivery took me 11 weeks.

If they can give a huge discount I would wait for it, if not cancel right away and buy one off the lot.

I don't mean to get this thread off track, but why are some of you here receiving South African built vehicles? Is it because of the schedule, trim, options etc? Does you CA inform you of the place of final assembly? I'm just curious since I've only done ED on BMW.

OP - before jumping off the deep end please ask to get a copy of the Vehicle Information Report. On that report you should see a VIN and status for your car. Then visit the bimmerfest ED forum and read the threads on vehicle tracking. This will let you get real information about your order which can then be used to make decisions.

Having said that if the car you ordered is not what you want, cancel and order the car how you like it from another dealership. You're spending good money on a large purchase so it should be what you really want.

IIRC, its closer to 4 weeks from durban to NY. 2 weeks from durban to bremerhaven, then another 2 weeks to ny.
find another dealer with a germany build allocation. it will take 4 weeks from start of production to delivery.
