About to ditch an iPhone - will Android Samsung Galaxy S 3 work with iDrive Office?

I do agree with you on one (IMO) the iPhone 5 is crap. I upgraded 3 lines, sold two of them for $750 each and kept the third. When I get back from Germany - I will be selling too and going back to my Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean - but good to know the S3 is also an option. And if i can rip out TouchWiz - I think I may get it.

Why? because on a good day a very small part of the tech works right.

I am not sure how the automobile industry consistently gets away selling defective crap.

p.s. I would think twice before swapping an iPhone fo a Droid. The grass always seems greener on the other side.

Everybody is advertising the tech now - look at MB and their "cloud based" navigation system.

This is correct. GMail app will not show emails on the iDrive, but with the built-in stock (horrible) email app, it shows up on my iDrive. I'm using an S3 running Jelly Bean.

Auto - Are you running JB with touchwiz or wer you able to rid of it and use stock Jelly bean?

The rom I'm running right now (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1766684) is stock JB (no TouchWiz crap). There are roms out there that are JB, but with a Touchwiz overlay (if you want it)

Sweet, thanks. Single biggest reason i did not go with the S3 was touchwiz. It ruins the experience.

I have an IPhone 5 on order to replace my RAZR Maxx running ICS. With the RAZR my Bluetooth randomly drops out and I no longer have my Phonebook. Will the IPhone 5 solve that problem? It would be nice to see text and emails but not a show stopper for me. I must have consistent Bluetooth and Phonebook. I also want to make sure that I can wireless sync with Outlook for calendar, email and contacts. Not being an IPhone guy, will this work for me or should I switch to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and cancel the IPhone order?

I left iPhone for S GS3, but yes, bluetooth with iDrive was bulletproof (I had phone and contacts). And yes, calendar and email will sync with Exchange server.

But I would cancel the iPhone order for numerous other reasons than the ones you're brought up.

And shame on your for hijacking the thread... I think there are threads dedicated to your questions.

I have an iPhone 4S, SG2, and BB bold. The only phone that sync's with the car's bluetooth with everything ie contacts, text, e-mail, calendar and task is the BB bold with OS6. Sometimes I wish the Droid and iPhone could catch up in this department. Maybe someone needs to write an app for this in the Droid and iPhone environment.

You may want to check your "smart actions" Motorola has some smart actions that turn thing on and off to save battery etc. Sounds like one of these is putting your bluetooth radio is some kind of sleep mode and you are loosing your connection.

As far as the iphone 5 - I have it and don't like it at all. I can tell you though that even in my Hyundai I can not only use the bluetooth, but I can also use siri via bluetooth. I do have to press the button on the phone but she speaks to me via the speakers and I to her over the car mic.

Auto, please tell us what settings on your phone and car to get email. I'm on exchange and unable to get emails with my Galaxy S3. Texts come over fine, but not email. I upgraded from blackberry when the S3 came out and this is the only thing I miss from blackberry is the ability to get my emails via the office in my 528.

BMW had "send to Car" 7 years ago. They are just advertising what little actually works without being too much of a cluster.

My bad, it was announced around May 2008 on most models. My 2008 X6 had it.

Again, not buying it. Unless you are talking about BMW assist, which is a completely different thing.

Here is why... In order for this to be feasible the car must have a way to receive this information. In 2007 3G was in its infancy (wether it was HSPA ATT/T-Mobile or EVDO Verizon) and Bluetooth was at I believe 2.0 but most mobiles were still on 1.1. Also air cards were not present in cars.

I would for you to show me a spec that showed this option. BTW been in the wireless business over 15 years and a tech freak longer than that...if this had been out I would have been all over it especially since I had just moved to OC in that time frame and couldn't find anything.

Again if you are referring BMW Assist, that is completely different and has nothing to do with this thread.

Send To Car has been around since 2007 on the 7 and 2008 on the 5. It uses GPRS packet data, so the availability of 3G services is irrelevant.

Only this year has the Combox been updated to 3G!

So the Combox now is 3G, does this also mean the 2011 comboxes are upgradable to 3G?

Not without physically changing the Combox. I'm not aware of anyone who has done this.
