or do you pay tax on the FULL amount of the vehicle, THEN get $1000 off the full amount?

My dealership seems to think it's the latter; where I have to pay tax on the full amount of the vehicle. Is this correct? So I am paying tax on $1,000 that I didn't really spend on the car?

If anyone can comment w/ their experiences it would be very helpful... Thanks in advance.

This is different state to state. In PA, the $1000 along with any other incentives is subtracted from the purchase price, pre-tax.

In CA, rebates from the dealer are not taxable, however rebates and incentives from the manufacturer ARE taxable.

Thanks! How did you learn/where can I confirm this? I wish my CA could have explained this to me as clearly.

I guess one thing good about living in Oregon. No sales tax! Save thousands of dollars in buying a vehicle. The rain 7-6 month and grey skies for 8 months not so good..

When I picked up our car from Jon, Calif sales tax was calculated/paid on the negotiated price of the car which included the destination charge, training fee, and MACO fee. The $1000 BMWNA rebate was then applied after taxes as part of our down payment. Apparently, this is standard in Calif. (Jerry wants his full pound of flesh).

I attended the Drive for Team USA event in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in late June, but don't recall ever receiving an email or paper mail voucher. Am I in some database somewhere? Should I have received something via email, or paper mail?

What's the law in NY? PO from my CA deducts this $1,000 from the cost, before taxes.

Still, i am cool with my dealer, if someone has one thats unused and lets me use it, if it works i will send them 100 bucks
