Post pictures by uploading your photo to a site like photobucket, and then using the [img] [/img] code in order to link the photo into a post. Also try a search on "renewing" the chrome. I don't have any good suggestions on that part, sorry

I have something similar on my rear door trim - almost a cloudy / acid rain type residue. I used a little triple 0 steel wool with a little chrome polish and it just about all came off.

hey thanks man
The Ram is close to my heart, I bought her in '96 with 15k miles and just retired her to 'truck only' use at 193,000. She's been a good vehicle and I just couldn't part with her, so rather then buy a new truck I bought a 7 lol

I had the foggy trim on my 7 replaced under warranty, but I used this product on my 3 series and it did a good job... http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=599676 Finally, I think the trim is aluminum and not actually chrome. One of the vendors (try Bavauto) sells a kit to fix this problem as it happens on a lot of BMW models.

Do you have a pic of said foggy trim? I am trying to compare it to my trim. My chrome seems to shine but I bought the car used and don't know what its "supposed" to look like.

Its supposed to look like a clean mirror. if you put sunglasses on you'll see the stains more clearly in the bright sun.. It looks ok but def not showroom new...

The triple zero steel wool has worked for me in the past and then follow up with a polish and then wax it.
Another avenus to take is to go to a auto parts store that stock alot of auto paint and related products and ask for a cutting creme; this will do it. stlbmw

Like Bob...I used Gords to work on my trim. It certainly improved the oxidation, but (admittedly) I only made two passes, so I imagine it will be much better with a little more elbow grease on my part. I just figured I'd work on a section per weekly wash and I should see good results after too long.

I tried Never Dull, Mothers Back To Black (came back 30 min later), wd 40, blue metal polish etc.. Ordered the Gord's polish after 3-4 passes foggy chrome gone! Back to factory condition! After reading the reviews I was skeptical and excited all at the same time. I immediately ordered the polish and it arrived 2 days later. For my first attempt I didnt see ANY results... So I'm thinking to myself "Wow another useless over-hyped solution" but I refused to give up! I stayed at it scrubbing harder and harder with the steel wool pad and then letting it dry on and scrubbing some more (rinse and repeat x3). After about an hour and 10 minutes all oxidation and haze had left my beloved chrome trim! Now let me warn you guys.... Before you go scrubbing like your in a pot cleaning competition, MASK OFF YOUR AREAS! I did NOT and managed to scratch some of the paint along my doors with the steel wool! I was excited and in a rush so hey.. sh!t happens?
Anyway the stuff works and works better than anything I've tried. Happy restoration! |

And here I thought I was the one only one who had hazy trim. I will need to try these solutions.
