Read Text Messages: Android?

Has anyone had success with a 2012 F30 being able to see text messages and read them with an Android phone (HTC ONE S) in particular...? Thanks.

Most Android phones don't support the necessary MAP protocol as far as I know.

Works fine with the E90 iDrive and a Motorola Droid 4. I expect the F30 will work also if the phone cooperates, as voip-ninja suggested.

One quirk I did discover when pairing and re-pairing my phone a while back, to correct some problem or other: You can end up with limited functionality if you fail to respond to security notifications on the phone during pairing. Note that's notifications--plural! It will separately ask you to allow the car to download your contacts and messages (the MAP profile, as noted). If you miss the prompt or accidentally cancel or dismiss it, the data will not be transferred and it will never ask again. You will need to un-pair the phone and car and start over.

To get full functionality, ensure the phone does not auto-lock or sleep while pairing--for example by temporarily extending your display timeout setting--and respond promptly to the authorization notifications.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy SII and it works fine. I can see and read text messages and email. iDrive will also read the message aloud. I can't reply through iDrive but maybe a future software update will incorporate that.

How do you sync the galaxy ii and the car to do that? I'm having trouble on my 2013 328i.

Why so hard???

Just got my car last week and after fussing for a while managed to get my Blackberry to connect, but no hands-free (???). Tried with my Samsung Galaxy II and after half and hour was ready to punch the car. Manual is useless (covers options not even sold in Canada or US...not that they mention it).

The kicker (pun intended is that the hands-free doesn't work on anything).

Can anyone help me. I can rewire a 777, but I feel like an idiot trying to get my car to do the simplist of things. Why so hard???

Works fine with my SGS3. Just make sure you check office in bluetooth configuration (global) and the services used on the phone

I installed the latest bluetooth update from BMWUSA site then deleted and re-paired my phone. I checked the options for phone and streaming music under bluetooth settings. When I go to current office, it shows the number of unread texts and emails that I get on my phone. Clicking on the controller brings up the list of messages/emails and I can scroll through them. I can't reply to the messages but I can read them and have iDrive read aloud.
I didn't have any trouble pairing and the hands-free for the phonebook works great. Every time the phone connects to the car after switching the car on, iDrive refreshes the messages and contacts.

I had to enable bluetooth Office to get it to work with my Motorola Bionic (running ICS, 6.7.232).

Did you have to pay for the BMW app for this feature or all you need is enhanced bluetooth?

It should only require the enhanced bluetooth option to work. I got the tech package so BMW Assist and enhanced bluetooth were included in the package.

Blue tooth / MAP now part of Android Kit Kat 4.4.4

The most recent update. Which includes the text to voice. On a lot of higher end phones. mine Nexus 5. Will need to delete both previous profiles on car and phone and pair again. Works fine on 2011 E90 for reading text car does not have advanced screen.
