Bimmerfest Design Entry for Local Motors challenge

Hey all, i wanted to first point everyone towards this wonderful article posted in the news section of bimmerfest

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=648360

As you know, BMW and Local Motors have partnered up to promote a crowd sourcing event, in which, the public has a say on which features and ideas they would like to see implemented in their next urban city vehicle. As such, and after discussing some ideas, Tim330i and I wanted to see if a contribution by the Bimmerfest Community could be entered into the event. This is possible, and we wanted to see what ideas the enthusiasts of the Bimmerfest community can come up with. So we came up with a competition to host on Bimmerfest, and here are the details.

Bimmerfest Design Entry for Local Motors challenge (Bimmerfest Design)

The premise of the BMW and Local Motors Challenge is to be able to directly influence the ideas and features for the next generation of BMW urban vehicles. These features could be electronic systems, powertrain designs, chassis aids, or anything dealing with solely the features of the car. As per the rules, new car designs or any civilian infrastructure designs will not be counted towards the event.

The Bimmerfest design entry will contain the top 10 designs gathered from the Bimmerfest design Crowd sourcing challenge. This challenge will take place from today October 4th 2012 till 11:59 PM October 11th 2012. After the close of the event, voting will begin from October 12th 2012 till 11:59pm October 14th 2012. The top 10 design entries will be submitted to the event before the deadline of October 16th 2012. The challenge will have the almost the same rules and regulations as the Local Motors Challenge, but any questions can be posted under this thread.

As per the event details, there are some things to keep in mind. When entering the challenge for Bimmerfest.

1) You do not need to be a professional designer. As per the rules, the only thing you need to be able to do is translate your ideas on features from a thought to paper (electronic). Hence you can submit a high quality render, a sketch, or even animated gif. Also you don't have to design an entire car interior if your specific feature is related to one specific section of the vehicle.

2) You will also need a storyboard, to demonstrate to everyone, how your specific idea for a feature will help those driving BMW urban vehicles (circa. 2025) to ease or simply their driving experience.

3) Make sure that the feature is a single feature. As per the BMW challenge rules, you can only submit a single feature, unless they are co-dependent.

4) Also, please don't submit new car designs as per the rule, (ie post-apocalyptic SAV)

5) The Bimmerfest entry will enter the top 10 feature ideas, voted on by the community here. However, as this is a crowd sourcing event, if you are not in the top 10, you can still enter your entry on the official BMW & Local Motors event. Hence their are no loosers, everyones a winner.

6) The offical challenge from BMW & Local Motors does have a variety of prizes to possible winners. If the Bimmerfest Design entry wins, all proceeds will go to a charity (which will be announced in the near future).

So 'Festers begin coming with your ideas, to let help influence the design of BMW's urban vehicle!

Why does this matter?
CAUSE EVERY TIME someone says Lexus has better build quality, one should consider what Toyota their Lexus Engine and chassis platform comes out of and how long that part has been tested in the real world!

As a pursuer for career in automotive engineering, I would love to enter. Unfortunately, the competition requires you to be 18 (I'm 17). So close and yet so far...

Good luck to those who are able to enter, though.
