1995 325 vert window regulator question

ok so my motor died... I took the regulator out today. have two pieces... no clue where they go or what they do.. here they are, someone help me out:




where do they go?

nobody knows where these pieces go? Man, I am used to mustang forums where there are always 15 people who know everything about the cars they drive. I just got this car last week or I also would know everything there is to know about taking it apart and putting it back together.

I don't have a cabrio, but I've been in lots of BMW doors working on regulators and window motors and neither one of those pieces look at all familiar. Where were they? Laying in the bottom of the door?

the one on the left with the plastic piece attached to it fell out from the middle of the window when I unbolted one of the regulator bolts. The regulator obviously had been out before because there were no rivots. I have looked at an exploded view of the regulator setup and cant find either of those pieces in there. I am thinking that maybe the round one is a metal bushing. from what i understand, there is either a metal or plastic bushing that determines how the teeth on the reg meet up with the motor gear.

like I said, I am new to this car, and havent really had a chance to tear it up yet.

so you are saying then that neither of those pieces are needed as far as you know? I am pretty sure that the front regulator assembly is the same on all e36 models. I know the backs are very different on the verts.

ok so the piece on the right attaches to the outside (facing interior of car) side of the regulator very close to where the teeth are on the regulator, very close to where the bottom corner of the motor assembly is.. the "square" side of the motor assembly bottom corner. Still no idea what it does or if it is related to the other piece. Nobody knows?

I figured it out myself. It amazes me that nobody on this forum seems to know that much about the cars they own. I am used to mustang forums where there are many people on there (including myself) who know where every nut , bolt, and gasket go, and how to put them there.


Very disappointed with you guys.

Well, excuse us. I'd say that those pieces being loose are a very rare occurrence, thus no one here knew what to make of them. I'm glad you got it figured out, and maybe you can help someone else if that problem shows up again on the forum.

This is not your first mistaken assumption. Did it ever occur that some of us may be doing things other than waiting to respond to your posts? Must be hard making new friends with an attitude and entitlement issue like that...

Since the OP didn't bother to post the solution that he figured out all by himself (which might actually help somebody who stumbles upon this thread in the future), here it is.

The parts in question are the stop for the big "gear arm" on the regulator, and the bolt that holds it in from the other side. Here's how it looks from the front and back of the driver's door regulator on my '96 vert:
