Coolant System Questions
How much coolant do I need to pick up. I searched a few places and from what i gather just one gallon of BMW coolant and 1 gallon distilled water. Right?

Yes, 1 gallon coolant & 1 gallon water will be enough to fill up the whole system. Obviously, if you are topping off, you'll need less than that.

You are correct, although it's a great idea to pick up an extra gallon (of each) in case you need to top it off.
Edit: read this short thread: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=735677 OTOH, I've never seen anything posted on e46f that was intelligent enough to re-post here. There's a first for everything! Sent from my ADR6410LVW using Bimmer App

One gallon is the only size available NO WAY DUDE...der I was referring to if I needed more then (1) one gallon jug pretty sure there isn't a bmw coolant crisis going on which restricts that I can only buy one gallon. God some people need to go to community college and take some reading comprehension classes.

Capacity of coolant system is something like nine liters, so to get a 50/50 mix, need more than a gallon of each.
Inconvenient truth. I saved my excess from last time so this time I'll only need to buy another gallon. |

8.4 liters says my repair manual for 6-cylinder engines.
If having one gallon of coolant it would make 45% coolant / 55% water mixture. If you were in south i would say it's close enough, but in north that antifreeze function is important also. Can get cracked engine, if coolant isn't strong enough. Last edited by lgr122; 10-05-2012 at 11:33 PM. |
