New software update?
I try this every so often, just thinking that some magical update will come along that's really cool. To my surprise, last night driving back home there was an update!!
Anyone know what this fixes / introduces new? I'll try to upload pictures ... J |

Did you get a message on your display in front of you that said you got a software update? Or do you have to go to messages to find out?

P.S. I was originally confused by the photos until I realized that in some areas of the world, updates are apparently available over the air. However, in the U.S. they appear to be only doable via a USB thumb drive.
I just did the upgrade with a USB thumb drive and it worked fine. The upgrade is available here: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...update_vin.jsp

Thanks for the information- going to do the upgrade tonight as well. My iPhone connects via the USB, so I am looking forward o seeing if it will be a bit less quirky at times.

Need a little help here. I downloaded the update to my USB device and tried to do the update. I plugged my USB into the port in the glovebox and the center console. In both cases the drive wasn't recognized. After reading the info on doing an update, it says you need an audio interface. I think I have that, but I'm not sure. Or, maybe i'm doing something wrong? Any suggestions?

The software update can only be done from the center console USB port, I believe.
If the file is not being recognized, try verifying the format of the USB drive. I don't believe that BMW supports NTFS -- it has to be FAT (FAT32 might work also).

Is this suppose to be a recent update? I downloaded it but it has the same version that I downloaded a couple months ago.

It's new for me, but my X3 is almost one year old now.

Agreed. This update has been available since the beginning of January -- not exactly breaking news.

When the spinning wheel stops (that means is has accepted your VIN) then just click continue. I tried several times over several days and it finally worked one day. I downloaded the software update but couldn't get my X3 updated. Got a message that i needed to insert a USB, which I already had done.....sometimes I hate computers. Good luck with your update

A new Update for communication and entertainment appeared in the past few days here : http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...update_vin.jsp
You have to check compatibility first using your VIN and if applicable, download on a USB memory stick and connect to the car in the armrest USB connector. This is how it's done on my 2013 F25 X3... You never know how it might improve weird behavior with iOS6 for example ? Last edited by larrylotus; 10-07-2012 at 07:13 AM. |

The German version of the text says the update is for cars produced from March 2010 onwards.
