Gas Prices Rise Again Overnight in California

Fortunately, I don't have to drive for my work or even commute, so my fuel costs are pretty minimal, but this is crazy. Seems like every time I drive by stations in this past week, there's been a substantial jump from the day before - as much as 20 cents in a day.

And here I am complaining about 3.69 in Wi...

I feel as if living in California would be the worst thing you can do financially. Yup, I went there.

Well, it ain't cheap to live here, but just as they say about BMW vs. a Civic, ya gotta pay to play.

And compared to Manhattan it's still a bargain. At least that's what I tell myself to make myself feel better.

I hate driving now. I spent 140$ in gas in one week. I should get roller blades to get around.

I feel your pain, at $5 a gallon the 7 series is in the garage and the CBR 1000rr will be getting alot of miles. Thats the one good thing about living in Cali, you can ride your motorcycle all year round

Your state is winning the price hike. I just checked with GasBuddy for zip code 10022 (upper east side) and the price for PREMIUM is $4.29 for Sonoco. $4.35 Gulf. $4.41 BP. $4.43 Hess. $4.49 Shell. Regular is about 30 cents less.

I paid $80+ last time I filled my tank. (Premium). A new record for me.

The signs said $3.28 to $3.35 per gallon for unleaded regular in TX. Premium, probably costs another 20 cents per gallon. I don't care what it is. The price has little affect on my lifestyle. I just fill the tank when I need to.

Sucks, but we gotta deal with it.

I've got a 100 mile a day round trip commute so this would have really hurt, but I just switched to taking the train last week, was very lucky timing. It's 5+ for Chevron 91 by my house. I was blown away, went up from 4.29 Monday to 5 Friday.

I've been snickering at the prices as I drive by to the station.

It's great that you can take the train. Wondering what the cost is compared to gas? The train didn't used to be much of a savings - except saving on the nerves and stress. Now that gas is $5, it may be a deal.

Same, but it's still crazy to see prices climb this fast. As E36 Phantom pointed out, they've gone up about 70 cents in about 5 days.

Yup, they do that now because it costs more to process through a credit or debit card transaction, so they give a discount for cash.

One thing I like about Taiwan is cost of transportation. While gas prices in Taiwan are similar to those in California one hear can get around on a scooter and since everything is so close close in the city gas money on a scooter is any where between $2-5 per week depending on how much driving around you do. If you take the Metro, the transportation cost can be any where from $10-15 per week and via bus it can be any where from $7-14 per week. These estimates are based a two way trip to and from work. Here in the city though many people live near work so many just walk to work as they find a place near their work.

With today's gas prices where they are my M3 would cost almost $80 to fill up and I would need to fill up roughly 7 times per month which puts transport cost of gas at $560 for fuel alone before other miscellaneous expenses. When you add oil changes,car tires,registration and insurance the car averages out to coat at least $800 per month, Definitely not cheap! $800 per month is with the are being fully paid off too.

Not many stations in Los Angeles do that. Most are credit price, even if you pay cash.

Between my husbands commute and mine we fill up both cars 2xs a week costing an Average of 1,100$ in gasoline alone per month. We are both looking into smaller cars that cost less to drive for commuter cars.

Well for the last two months I've been commuting in a 95 Land Rover Discovery which has a pushrod V8 designed in the 60s and the aerodynamics of a freight train, so from 4.2 to 5 is nearly $150/month more to me and would push my monthly gas to about $740 for commuting alone (and not counting my wife).

Contrast to the train at $180/mo plus I'll full up twice a month for another $180 and I'm cutting commute costs more than in half. Also, I'm actually saving myself time on the am commute and was so much more productive at work and relaxed at home.

The ACE train is a great system, very clean and comfortable and a friendly atmosphere. I wish I'd done this two years ago.

K, I have to admit I'd never heard of the ACE train so I had to look it up, but it looks great, and at $180 a month it's a steal compared to driving. I'd do that in a heartbeat.

For a while I had a lot of business in Stamford CT, but I didn't to stay up there in the boonies when I was so close to NYC where all the action was, so I'd stay in Manhattan and commute by train up there. Was fun and avoided the need for a rental car. .

Yup. I've always had a negative view of public transit from Bart and the Santa Clara light rail but this is very different.

What kept me from it before is that I still have about a 25 minute drive from the station to work on 880, which isn't exactly a speed way in the morning, and I have to leave a spare car at the station, but it is so very worth it. 880 doesn't hold a candle to the backups on 580.....

At an almost even exchange rate, that equates to about $5.70 a gallon, so we're not that far apart anymore with gas hitting $5 here. As far as the cash vs. credit price, I only see stations doing it when prices spike and people are freaking out about it. Last time ws when it hit $4 and stayed there. Once people get used to whatever it is, it goes back to being the same price regardless. Two weeks ago none of the stations were doing it anymore and now they are again.

VW Gti,Honda Civic,Honda Accord or even a Camry is good for small trips around town or commuter cars. Anything under 20 MPG with gas prices over $5 per gallon is pretty bad if one does quite a bit of commuting

Filled up about 5 hours ago.....$4.97/gal for 91 octane in my neighborhood.

Went on a long distance road trip about 4 hrs each way yesterday. Reg gas in my town was 4.53 thinking premium would be around 4.70.

Drove to a smaller town 30 mins into the trip and found out prem there was 4.49. Topped off came home today at almost empty again. Returned to small town and filled her up again lol.

Are you sure it didn't cost you more to drive to the small town and back than the amount you saved?
