They're rather infamous for putting something else in their mouths in San Fran. Probably a good thing I can't recall quite what it is... .... ....

Speaking of shops, I'm really psyched. We looked at some new construction last weekend and have been mulling over our options, the floor plans we're most considering had a 3car tandem garage (L shape) so in the back 3rd car space I think I'm going to set up a little shop area there. BendPak's basic 2 post is only about 3k shipped and should fit in there quite nicely. Then I'd have easy working under the car when I want, and a 4 car garage the rest of the time. I want I want I want!

Knowing a bit about SanFran (and the Castro, and the Tenderloin, and Haight Asbury)...I'm glad it was just rice you were referring to (I do remember those commercials with the trolley car).

The latter neighborhood was the center of the Radical/Acid Flashback/Free Love movement of the 60s, while the prior 2 neighborhoods are the where the gay rights movement started in the 70s.

So, Ed, your mind is not as far into the gutter as the rest of us

Traffic court on Thursday. Thinking about getting an attorney as I don't want this one on my record. It's a speeding ticket that had no radar/lidar reading, 'imprudent/unreasonable speed'. I'd rather pay now than get my rates skyjacked by a speeding ticket...

I moved from a big bank to a regional CU recently because of the better loan rates and supporting small businesses thing, but I'm not handling their technological incompetence well. They misprinted a check card, their online flow refused to recognize my existing account when I was trying to open and find a new one, the systems were "down" when I tried to open the account in person, and now their website and online banking portal thing have crashed, hard.

I can't login and I can't load the customer service page to bitch about not being able to login.

How the heck can they issue you a ticket without any indication of your speed? Seems like a pretty weak case on their end.

They aren't all that way, however. Just gotta find the right one. The credit union where I'm originally from is incredibly awesome, and has always been way ahead of the curve with regard to technology. I still do some banking with them while living in Seattle, but my primary banking is unfortunately with Chase, which I'd love to drop. The idea of switching over all of my direct deposits and withdrawals is off-putting enough to always cause me to avoid doing it...

Good for you, though.

i had a ticket thrown away 6 years ago for that the officer checked "estimated" and "lidar" and the magistrate was like "how the hell can you only estimate his speed if you were using the lidar, mr.doherty how fast were you actually going?" I was honest and they chucked the ticket, no points.

I'm still in the transfer process, its took my company 5+ weeks to get the direct deposit transfered, so my money has been a huge mess for a while. Supposedly this week its finally going to kick and I can drop the old bank entirely. I'm finally setting up the "3 account system" to manage my savings, hard expenses in one checking account, and "soft" expenses (food+everything else I want but don't need to live) in a 3rd. That way my brain doesn't think I'm loaded just because I haven't paid rent yet.

And yeah, this CU seems to be pretty good aside from all the bumpiness with the technology, they have iOS and Android apps and you can do everything over the phone or online, but they just seem to have stability issues. I finally managed to check my balance by going through their automated phone system, app and website are still down, and its a bank holiday so they probably wont get to it until tomorrow.

Joey, I work for a community bank (only 20 branches/2.5bil in assets) and I can tell you community banks are often behind the technological curve. That's why I bank with Chase and not my employer. Usually it's not due to incompetence, it's due to regulations that are over reaching and a lower demand from their customers. Big banks can swallow fines for non-compliance just to be the first to the market with new technologies (ie remote check capture from your phone) that could seriously hurt a smaller bank.

Typically they make up for it with better customer service so it depends what your priorities are.

Last note, it's a banking 3 day weekend, and most of us use those for big system upgrades that require more man hours. Usually if it's down on a weekend, especially a holiday, it was planned.

Mine really isn't that far behind necessarily, if anything they actually offer more functionality online than Wells Fargo does, the issue is with reliability/stability. With the exception of one person working reception, everyone I've worked with in person has been awesome, the branch manager personally opened my accounts on a slow Saturday.

I thought about the holiday, but if its a planned outage they should be messaging that on the login pages or via email to keep customers calm. So either its a big software goof or a customer service oversight.

(Still down, btw)

Spent the weekend at Burke Mt in Vermont for my school's cycling team. Absolutely awesome trails.

This one trail was by far the best thing I've ever ridden.

Just found out that from now until the market launch of my project, they want us to work at tiny little desks in one gigantic room.

Never thought I'd miss my cubicle...

When I go to Columbus, oh I have to sit in a "bull pen". Its a big square cubicle with desks at each corner. It feels so naked!

Its not a cost thing, I think its a speed/productivity/collaboration thing. They are hoping that by bringing the business people (us) together with the program management people and technology people, it will make things move faster.

It will be until February as far as I know.
