Reinitialize Windows?

Just noticed this evening that the rear passenger window won't auto-close (i.e. I have to keep the control pressed down to close it). It auto-opens just fine. Pretty sure this was caused when the battery was disconnected while my car was at the dealer for repair of my roof module.

I know there are instructions for resetting/reinitializing the window for older models of the 3, but these don't seem to work for the F30. Does anyone know how to do a reset so the window will operate normally again? I don't want to take it to the dealer for such a minor issue. If only the dealer can do this, I'll just have them fix it when I have it in for service.

if its like anything on prior cars, you just have to open the window fully, then close it, holding the switch in the close position after the window is fully shut. the window will then open slightly, then close again. you can then release the switch.
this was the sign (on prior cars) that the reinit was complete

Same thing happened to me. When I tried to open the rear passenger window from the driver seat, the button was stuck. I had to push it down with more force than usual to get it to work again. I dont know if that caused the problem because I rarely open that window. I didnt take it to the dealership this weekend because I had tint installed. I'll take it this weekend if I cant fix it myself.

you had to push the button down with more force?

the op is having a different issue, his one touch is not working

did your installer tape your window buttons to keep you from rolling them down before the tint set? or put something there to block the buttons? there may be some debris stuck in the buttons from the tint job.

The button was stuck only once and this was before the tint job.

I tried the procedure Orient330iNYC suggested, but it didn't work for me. Perhaps they changed the process for this body?

I'll just live with it until my next service appointment -- whenever that is.

My dealer fixed it by holding the window button down until the window is all the way down. This will help the computer know its lower limit. I hope that helps.

Does anyone have info on how to fix this other than taking it to the dealership? Both of my rear windows require holding the switch, and I have been having the same luck with other reset methods as everyone above...

Earlier this week I had my car into the dealer. Like others here, the one touch close was not working, so I had them look at it. I figured it would be a quick reinitialize. As it turns out, there is an SIB for this issue. The dealer had to replace both of the rear motors (and then reinitialize).

So, unfortunately, if you're having this problem and none of the ideas in this thread work, you may need to take it to the dealer to have them perform the SIB service.

Good to know about this SIB - thanks. Hope I won't need this, but at least there's a fix for it.

This is what I ended up doing earlier in the year. Window is working perfectly now, no issues.

There is a specific procedure to perform taken from E60 forum.

I followed steps in post #48
http://forums.5series.net/diy-do-you...t-25812/page5/

I wanted to be clear by using the window button on the door that had problem in step 2 ( not from driver's window controls) with 17 - 20 seconds held.
