My 98 740IL just started leaking oil out from beneath the cap of the oil filter housing--not sure what you call it! It is literally pushing out through the threads on the cap, a very aggressive oil leak. I replaced the filter, put 2 new mounting screws/plungers, and even put an o ring under the cap but no luck. When I first took the cap off, there was no o ring, perhaps the oil change shop left it off. I cannot find out anywhere if that o ring must be there or not.
Hoping someone can shed some light on why the oil is pouring out and suggest how to fix. . Thanks so much! Petersjo |

There is suppose to be one there. Just buy a filter and change it again and install the o-ring. It will be fine.
When you have the cap off, check to see that they didnt over-tighten it and crack the cap. Last edited by JasonSC540ia; 10-08-2012 at 11:44 PM. |
