Belt?
![]() You mean one of these? Should check under the hood for making sure. Does engine run? With help of other battery? IF that belt is truly all, and IF not terribly much mileage i would say strong BUY with that price. Belt is easy to change and snapping shouldn't cause much other damage. Belt waterpump/alternator 22€
Belt aircond. compressor 12€ Ofcourse prices will look bit different in your store, but just showing that we're not talking about very expensive parts here. But be careful to see through whole car to find out what else is wrong, before you seriously think about buying it. |

If it were me, I'd snap it up engine or no engine. Nice little project car there.

But to me it looks like under 100$ of parts can make 1900$ car into 4000$ car or more, even if it's not all in top shape. In BMW belt snap isn't so serious issue like timing belt in some others, but sounds like owner doesn't know it. Last edited by lgr122; 10-09-2012 at 07:48 AM. |

Check the radiator for damage as well as the res for cracks. I guess belts can just snap, but that would mean he needed to change it and didn't. What else was not done on the vehicle? Good luck, it could be minor.

If the waterpump belt broke and he drove the car without a cooling system, look out. These cars have little tolerance for overheating. If he tried to drive it any distance, he may have overheated the engine. Not sure of the cost of a used or rebuilt unit, just be prepared. Also, what's the mileage? If it has an auto trans, you it may be close to the end of its life. Check out the posts and the wiki for the known issues with the car so you know what you are possibly getting into.
