High Mileage 550i?
Hi guys, new to this forum, a member of other forums for many years, but recently a 2007 BMW 550i crossed my path and it's a very nice maintained vehicle, (documented carfax). I was considering purchasing it, but wanted to get some opinions. It has 170K miles and is priced under $13K. Does this sound reasonable, or am I looking at a money pit with that high mileage? Sorry if a similar thread was started, I just couldn't find one.

find out what it would cost to add some warranty from an independent company. you're probably gonna need it.

Think of it this way...
You're not buying a $13,000 car with 170,000 miles on it. You're buying a $70,000 car with 170,000 miles on it. Your maint & repairs alone in the first year will likely cost 50% of the purchase price.... |

I would never buy a used BMW over 50k miles. Unless it's under a CPO warranty or other. 170k miles Is cray cray

This is to bad I had a 1977 320i with 400,000 and still ran and performed great.Replaced with a 1993 525i ran till 300,000 sold it for $2000.Did a lot of upkeep on the 93 but was worth it,great car.Hope to get many more out of my 545i even though have had to do some repairs.

and yeah even when you are calculating the mileage to be in kilometers 170k is a lot of driving done to it already... miles even worse... I would strongly avoid purchasing any vehicle with that many clicks on it, let alone a $70K vehicle... just my 0.02

I don't know guys. I have an 07 550i with 115k on the odometer. Oil changes ever 5k, I have no problems. I intend to keep it for a while. It runs perfectly fine. My indy says these cars can go for hundreds of thousands of miles with fundamental maintenance. What's the problem?

A little more care with cooling system and that 550i could be a great car.If its in great shape cosmetically you could put 5k$ in it and be at the price of a new Altama but.....not saying anything bad about the Altama but its not a bimmer.Make offer of 10k$ that would give you 8kish to play around before that new car option pops up again.

the wise thing to do as most people already advised is to stay away.
