Question about a CPO BMW

Hello,

I am new here. I actually joined simply to ask this question. I am looking at a CPO BMW 3 series at a local dealer. I am trying to find out if it is a good deal. Here's the specs:

2007 328i Coupe Gray on Black
78,466 miles
CPO, 2 owners always serviced at this dealer. Warranty for maybe 6 more months or 100k
Automatic Trans
Sport Package
Premium Package
Navigation
Moon Roof
Premium Sound System (dunno if this means Logic 7)
Bluetooth

Asking Price: $20,450

I tried to offer lower and was told that is the price.

I am looking at a similar car, same options only a sedan with 96k and its 14k (for sale by owner, one owner, same service history)

Is this a good price for the coupe? Is it worth 6k more??

Thanks in advance!

No. I would probably choose the one owner based on the info you gave.

With all respect, this statement is useless without some hint as to your reasoning.
KBB comes up with a retail price $1000 under the listed price for the coupe. Granted KBB has its faults, but why do you say "that's to [sic] much"?

cokewithvanilla: I recommend you run the configurations against KBB.com and Edmunds.com and NADA.com and see what the numbers are. The sedan config seems to come in at around $14k on KBB.com.

I also recommend you search for similar vehicles through cars.com and autotrader.com and see what they're listed for from dealers and private-party sellers across the southeast. That'll truly tell you if these are appropriately priced.

Can't help you with whether a coupe is worth more to you than a sedan.

i wouldnt pay $20k for a 7xxxx mile coupe 3 series thats just a dumb ass price. At 7xxxx miles you're looking at a start of a **** load of problems with your car. Ive had both the sedan and coupe 07 year from 40xxx-78xxx miles and have nothing but bad experiences. Save your money and get something with less mileage.

I bought my 07 328xi coupe at 52k miles with premium package + cold weather packge for $19k flat at an auction 4 MONTHS AGO !! That means that your car probably sold for anywhere between $16-18k 4 MONTHS AGO which would mean that now the car they are trying to sell you goes for $14-16k at an auction. The dealer is making quite a bit of money on you.

Good luck

Can we assume this is the one being sold by the private party since you said sedan versus coupe?

Yep.

So far it's been good... I've driven it about 500 miles so far. It has a few dings, but that's to be expected with an 07. I was pretty well sold after I rode in a 335i that the dealer 'just got'. When looking at the history, they told me it looked like a great one... then the sales guy pulled it around and told me, "I'm sorry, this one looks rough... we just took it in and haven't cleaned it." It was completely trashed, there was garbage everywhere, the controls had layers on grime on them, the rims were all banged up, ect. I would have never known all this had they cleaned it up. Not to mention that this price was 8000 less than the dealers were willing to offer on similar vehicles ( with 10-15k less miles).

Nobody on an Internet forum can give you reliable advice - they haven't seen & mechanically/cosmetically evaluated the car.

Few things though:
  • Dealers often charge premium ammt's
  • Private party offer a CPO??
  • Prices come down in October - negotiate after Halloween
  • Much less demand when cool, inclement weather blows in, Nov
  • PPI at an independent, reputable BMW mechanic
  • Many problems occur close to 100k mi

Thanks! I was hoping I made out alright. It's such a fun car. I think I've been sold on BMW's for life. This is actually the first car I am paying for myself (24 years old, had free nissan's/infiniti's for the past 7 years)... now the fiance wants a matching car... lol.
