Why chase them if they will come to you - do you want to risk arrest on future entry?

I hated the speed cameras, I hated having my wife constantly pestering me to tone down the 400hp on the autobahn where Europeans actually know how to drive.

But I would like to think that we represent the US well and pay the fines we are cited with. If one must think selfishly about it...isn't there a possibility that the fines would be sent to a collection agency? I consider my tickets an ED n00b tax.

I was waved over twice during my trip by the interpol at stationery stops they had set up and they were as friendly as could be both times. Be a good guest, pay the fine.

If you want to go back you pay. Otherwise you'll get pulled out of the customs line and taken to an ATM or worse, denied entry.

I had Sygic (an app based on TomTom) on my iPhone and iPad, then used it through my USB adaptor for navigation. It beeped every time I saw a speed camera.

Then I rented a 335d with build in professional nav... Got blitzed in a momentary speed reduction in Saxony-Anhalt and paid 35 euro for my souvenir photo of me chewing on my finger in front of some windmills. 150km/h in a 120.

Found this interesting article from the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/01/te...anted=all&_r=0

The iCoyote App looks good to use in Germany, but I don't believe the app is available in the US iTunes Store. But there is a work around for that.

I know Waze shows red light cameras. Does anybody know if it shows speed cameras as well?

Can you bring your U.S. radar detector to Germany and use it when taking delivery? Would it work in Germany detecting their radar?

Would it be against the law to use in Germany, but how would they catch you?

I'm going to take my V1 with me to Germany, as I'm flying into Greenville to pick up a X5 after my ED and need the V1 on the drive south on I-26. I have driven a few times in Germany/Europe and have never seen a "No Radar" sign like in VA.

I got a ticket for tailgating near mulheim. The camera calculated speed and distance. 100 euros for being 21 meters behind at a speed of 104 km/h. We were all slowing for the speed camera, the car behind me was right up my backside.

I read about the traveling distance on an other post. Was the ticket mailed to you home in the states? Downloaded CamSam Plus for the red light/speed camera location.

Yes. First they sent a letter confirming I was the driver, then they sent the bill. The bill came by registered mail.

Arrest? Denied Entry tot he EU? Frog-marched to the ATM??? Mr Cheung and FMSlim tell frightening tales, above. Are they true or myth? Does anyone have first-hand experience with non-payment punishments?
As one who recently had the pedal too near the metal from Bologna to LogInOut Munich and fears a mail-box-full of citations, I would like to understand the possible downstream effects of not paying these speed-camera tickets.
Specifically - are the effects EU-wide, or limited only to the country of the ticket's origin? I don't expect to return to Austria, but definitely will go back to Italy. Can I safely ignore the Austrian demand for euros, but pay the Italian tickets? Are there any countries with reciprocity agreements? Can I safely fly to France without risking a 2-year stint in the Foreign Legion?
Although not normally a scofflaw, I'd rather keep my $ than turn them into Euros and send them to the Bundespolizei.

Thanks in advance.

I just don't want to piss off BMW. I'll bet they are on the hook as the issuers of the zoll plate if I don't pay. And they know how to find me and make my life difficult.

The plates are issued to the registered vehicle owner, that is you, with your good ole USA address. How do you think they know where to send the ticket. Was it a registered letter? Did you ever really receive it? Heinrich Müller is not looking for you.

It was a registered letter. And don't think they won't go after BMW if i mysteriously don't get letters. Because it's a Zoll plate I'd bet BMW is in the hook if I don't take care if it.

I could probably ultimately get away with not paying, but they have my passport information. And they know where to find BMW, too. I want to do another European delivery, so why mess around for $130?

I just returned from ED on 9/1. My last stop was Zurich to see my cousin who lives there. She works at the airport and told me one time she had to be an interpreter and explain to a passenger arriving from Korea that he was banned from entering Switzerland for not paying traffic ticket(s).

Interesting topic. I KNOW I got "flashed" in one of the tunnels in Switzerland two weeks ago. I'm waiting for the repercussions.......
