Bmw e46 1999-2000 rough idling
Please help! Iam driving a BMW E46 1999-2000 Model Automatic in the morning when you start the car the idling is just horrible as it fluctuates and once engine is hot then it becomes normal. It does this even when the car has used and parked for while for instance an hr and you have to wait until it stabilise before you hit the road.

Could be a few issues if happening when cold. One is the Vanos unit. Do you hear rattling type noise in the front o the engine when this happens? If so, most likely a Vanos unit. If not, I would check the idle control valve.
Another common col misfire could be collapsed lifters, but you would hear ticking type noise. Good Luck!

Clean your MAF, check lower intake boot for crack/tear
Hook up your e46 to a code reader, and provide codes please

Hi. With the engine running take off the oil filler cap, if the rough idle is just the same you have a vacuum leak. I would change all your vacuum/breather hoses.
