Agree with everyone on this thread. The wipers suck really bad. My last 6's wipers were amazing and I never changed them. These always look like bugs are stuck under them as they don't clean evenly.

I think they changed suppliers and the quality of the blades went down.

I was going down a side street in a heavy downpour and they really weren't doing the job.

I'm interested if anyone has changed out the blades and the problem was resolved.

Even using the wipers to clean leaves a mess of run off down the driver's side pillar and window.

Engineered to have a virtual camera hovering above the vehicle.

No gots basic sound wiper wipingness.

Who'd they put in charge of wiping?

Had very heavy rain yesterday here in Tampa and I was very unhappy with the car. I couldn't see anything, the wipers were useless. I cleaned the blades and windshield with rubbing alcohol and it improved slightly but still useless. Yesterday was the first day I truly felt regret for getting rid of my 7.

I had the same issue Thursday. The biggest issue I had was the wiper speed seemed too slow for the tremendous amount of rain coming down.

I too was lost at sea on Tampa's downpour roads.

It's such a vast expanse of glass and I couldn't see ****.

All kidding aside I almost had to pull over. Used oncoming traffic as a beacon. Not ideal.

I've been too busy/lazy/reluctant to deal with service dept. But with summer rains already here I've got to.

I hope it's simply the blades.

Summer showers have really made this a bigger issue. xDrive handles the standing water and daily downpour very well, but the wipers just can't keep up with the rainfall. They are great for mild to moderate showers as they can keep up and work quietly, but the heavy showers are verging on scary.

There's another thread somewhere that posts an internal BMW service memo about this.

It basically states they stopped using the kickass wipers and now use a cheaper one...


It makes sense on so many levels...

First, it's not like we'd see the difference in performance. I mean you can barely see the wipers not performing well.

Who takes time to notice our windshield awash in poorly wiped schmears??? Wtf.

Secondly, good to know they cut corners on these little things that don't matter. Visibility during wet conditions is over rated anyhow.

And it's not like its a BMW you can't expect top quality.... Errr wait nvm.

Maybe we should start a letter writing campaign or something.

Not only do the blades stink, but the wiper arms/motors are just way too slow to keep up with anything more than a light drizzle... Even at the highest speed setting. That's shameful for BMW. I can yield better results wiping the glass with my shirt sleeve.

+1. This is the bigger issue for me. My blades do okay with the actual wiping, but they are too slow even on the fastest setting to keep up with the rain.

In the dry west it's hard to write anything conclusive about wippers. Just after I took possession of the car in May we had a rain storm. While driving I noticed on the driver side a shmearing on the down side of the cycle. The dealer replaced with a new wiper assembly (rubber and rubber support not the arm). That stopped the shmearing. We haven't had a strong enough rain to criticize the speed. The wipper do seem slower than the prior 650. However the older models had a cam that shifted and accelerated the wiper as it moved across the windshield. That could be a difference which would affect a perception of speed.

I'm sure the mechanisms are different on the E series and F series cars but I don't think it's perception. My wife currently drives an E71/X6 (which I always drive when we're together) and the wiper speed (highest setting) on those blow my 650's away. I think they just screwed the pooch on this one.

If it wasn't a lease and I was going to keep it for a few more years, I would look into retrofitting the wiper motors from the E series. I'm not gonna lie, I get a little uncomfortable in anything heavier than normal rainfall. It's that sucky. Never before, in my life...

My wipers are lousy too. Drivers side wiper is a complete fail. I do not even bother taking it to dealer. They will tell me a story I don't want to hear.

Any recommendations regarding what brand blades to buy to replace OEM wiper blades?

I changed my horrible range rover blades to rain-x latitudes and really liked them. But it's seems like it might be more than just a blade issue.

Solution - live in a sunny place where it is 75 degrees every day and doesn't rain.

Why not just kill the weatherman if they forecast rain. Sooner or later they'll catch on...

my 3rd BMW and still I don't find the wipers good. since the 3, then the 5 and now the 6. They judder. from the factory. =(

Anyone leaving the SF Giants game tonight in all that rain in their 6er....
