"Raindrops Keep Fallin" songwriter Hal David dies

LOS ANGELES - Hal David, a lyricist who along with composer Burt Bacharach took the pop world by storm in the 1960s with hits such as "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head" and "Walk on By," died in Los Angeles yesterday at age 91, a representative said.

Bacharach's and David's song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head" was written for the 1969 movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and won the Academy Award for Best Song.

They also won a Grammy in 1969 for best score from an original cast show album for their Broadway musical "Promises, Promises," which included the song "I'll Never Fall In Love Again." The play returned to Broadway in 2010 starring Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes.

The songwriting duo's other hits included "What the World Needs Now Is Love," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Do You Know the Way to San Jose," and "(They Long to Be) Close to You," which is best known from a version by the Carpenters.

Eunice David, the songwriter's widow, who married him in 1988, said she used to watch him sit in an old rocking chair and write on a legal pad.

"All of a sudden, I'd look up and there it was filled with lyrics," she told Reuters. "It never ceased to amaze me how that happened."

(CNN) -- Former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, who embodied a dying breed of liberal Republicanism before switching to the Democratic Party at the twilight of his political career, died Sunday after a long battle with cancer, his family announced.

Specter died of complications from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at his home in Philadelphia, his family said. He was 82.

I am sad to have to announce that one of Motorsoprts most beloved and respected figures, legendary driver John Fitch, passed away this morning at the age of 95. John was a true gentleman and I was honored to have known him.

This is a picture that was taken the last time I saw him which was at the Limerock Historic Festival last Labor Day Weekend. He is sitting next to Sir Stirling Moss who was his friend and at various times had been his competition, co-driver and teammate.

Larry Hagman dead at 81.

Larry Hagman, whose portrayal of one of television’s most beloved villains, J. R. Ewing, led the CBS series “Dallas” to enormous worldwide popularity, died on Friday in Dallas. He was 81.

I don't remember him from Dallas (I'm sure my father does), but I do remember him from I dream of Jeannie. My siblings and I used to all huddle together and watch it on our 12" screen tv.

RIP Larry. I dream of Jennie is a classic.

Oh, I didn't realize he was the guy in I dream of Jennie until you said that.
