car keeps overheating after new parts

The belt had broke in my car. So I figured since I had to replace the belt I would replace some other parts too since I was in that part of the car.

Replaced: water pump (geba), thermostat, upper radiator hose, water pump pulley (aluminum), serpentine belt, AC belt, tensioner pulley, idlery pulley.

After I put the car back together I filled up the coolant tank with coolant waited and drove the car. The car overheated after 5 miles had to keep it parked a local parking lot till it cool down. I couldn't drive more then 3 miles without over heating.

What did I overlook? What needs to be done?

You need to bleed to cooling system to get the air out. Instructions for the procedure are in the WIKI

While I was bleeding the line the bleeder screw broke off, Ugh! I paid alot for that upper radiator hose part! I found out that I have a damaged radiator. So, I have to deal with that. Looking for a DIY for that now.

The plastic screw on the hose is replaceable and so separately, sold at the dealer only or a larger online specialty auto part store. I'm not talking about Advace Auto, Autozone, etc,

I broke mines the first time I bleed the systems years ago ... my first thought when I broke it was F@UCK. What did I do now.

I believe there's actually a brass replacement for the plastic bleeder screw. Maybe oembimmerparts.com would have it. Give them a call, the owner there (Max) is incredibly helpful.

That's a relief! But how do I get the remaining part of the plastic screw out of the hole? Hmm.

Yeah, I know the sentiment.

Whew! getting the remaining screw out was painless. I was all prepared with a kitchen paring knife but remaining part of the plastic screw unscrewed easily without much effort.

I am sooooo relieved. Thanks so much for letting me know about the replacement screw, I just ordered one from the dealer for 5 bucks. This saved me from having to buy another hose!!

Or you could just remove the one from the old hose. You do keep the old hose in the weed compartment just in case, right?

Brillant! Why didn't I think of that?! In fact I did keep the old parts just in case of who knows what.

Drive the car up on a set of ramps and turn the heat on all the way up to circulate the water in the heater core. Turn the car on and try to bleed the system again. This should remove all of the air out of the system.
You do not want to have any air bubbles in the system.
