Got a come along? 4 x 4 across the roof trusses to distribute the weight and the come along for the lift......

Or just grab it and lift it out. I mean, you DO have the rep of being a human hoist.

Basically this, only with the edition of the hay lifter thingy out of the top of the barn so I can pull it out easily, and the closest thing to put the 4x4 across is 12' up so I think I'll just build a frame.

this is the back up plan, it's just so danged hard to get my arms around it when it's in the car still though.

End of true day and here's. What I have to show for myself: front end is all off and I've started labeling and disconnecting sensors/ other electrical stuff.

I was going to congratulate you on your triumph, but then I realized I'd be much happier if you had used a vehicle to ram a hole into the side of the barn instead.

My newly cleared work space:

Car in the barn.... I'm thinking there might be a problem here....

Yep.... Not really any room in front of the car to work that's still covered.

Here we go, ass end is outside, but who cares

Taking apart the front end:

Not sure if 19.5 years worth of leaves, insects, and dirt, or just a squirrel nest

More of the front end gone:

Not sure why BMW decided to weld this thing on, but what ever, nothing a metal boring bit cant fix.

And there she is with no face:

This was on the bottom of the MAF, what are the odds it could be causing low RPM hesitation?.

Intake manifold off:

I like color coding and pictures for labeling:

Building a frame to hoist the engine out:

More building:

And there we go:

Sorry for the pic quality, all I have is my phone, and lighting isn't great .

Lol, I'll snap a few pics of the frame of the barn and you'll see why I didn't

Thanks, Ed.

Quick question, I know a lot of people swap an M50 manifold onto an M52 for better high end power, I'm wondering if I could do the reverse to get some extra low end torque?, if so, any one with an M52 want to trade manifolds?.

Also, still in the market for M53 exhaust manifolds, a 3.5" MAF, and 20lb injectors (is it true these can be sourced from a 'Stang?)

IIRC it's 24# injectors form a 'stang. Just working from memory on that though. Frank, Randy, Matt and Ken Jr have discussed it ad nauseum

You won't gain any torque because the tune is for an M50 manifold. Also, you want to use pink top injectors (21.5lb) from an S52. It's not tuned for the 24lb Ford injectors.

However, you may want to consider a tune from rk-tunes on bimmerforums. He only charged me $100 for a remote tune and it is spot on. Remember how I found out my Hakken tune wasn't quite right shortly after selling you the chip...

Cool, how does remote tuning work for OBDI?, doI just runit with the chip for awhile and send it too him and he tunes it and send it back?. Would I be able to, say put an M52 manifold and get some torqes?.

You just tell him your mods and he'll make a chip and send it to you. Very easy.

Go with the M50 manifold, trust me. With a tune, the M50 mani makes just as much low end torque as the M52 mani, and it'll still have more HP up top.

BTW, any news on the 3.38s?

Thanks, I'll get hold of him. I message the guy with the diff again and said I was waiting on a price, he said "o really?, for what" so I told him, he said "you picking up?" He did say that he was wrong on the ratios though, they're 3.23, which is pretty much exactly what I want, but I don't know if it's enough better than what you have to be worth it.

And I have plenty of traps around, those walls don't keep any thing out.

Yeah, 3.23's are pretty easy to find. I'm looking for more of a jump from my 3.15.

Engine is out!, and yes, the "hoist" is a ratchet strap with a load leveler. I spent an hour knocking rust and crux off Tue block with a wire brush head on my drill and it's almost clean enough to crack open. Tomorrow I need to work on the last nut holding on the exhaust manifold.
