Breakin in the 650i @ 120mph

Yea I'm all about doing my best breaking in my new 2013 650i properly.

My residence is just off a long 8 mile road with no lights. Second time out today ran her quicky up to 120 and swear I still was under the recommended 4K rpm.

Things were going fast for sure but is under 4K rpm possible kickin 120 ? Could have sworn I was a good boy.

I'm very jealous. I can only imagine what would happen to my crappy fuel economy if I had the temptation of such a road on a daily basis.

This car dies done interesting stuff when left on it's own. I've pulled the downshift going 45 mph and have been in 7th (Comfort mode) - strange but cool.

What is the (unlimited) top speed on it? I guess if that's what you saw, then It's possible. Were you in 8th gear?

I drove a stretch yesterday on Highway 280 between Los Altos and Menlo Park. It is about six miles of smooth well maintain highway. The road was pretty quite since the Stanford/Notre Dame game was on TV. I put the car in cruise at 120 and traveled about 4 of the 6 miles at 120. Never once feeling as though the car was being push or ergonomically feel at all uncomfortable. Can't wait until I get M Performance exhaust installed. Look forward to the reduced back pressure. Also plan on getting a K&N filter to let her breath easier up front.

The RPM is just around 4K at 160.

Unlimited top speed I read was 195-200. The way this car runs at 120 can't see why one shouldn't remove the 155 limiter. Get the right conditions to try 170 first and go from there.

I love K & N - have put them in all my cars. Looked it up, they don't have one available yet for the 2012- 2013 650.

I feel better now. How quiet was it at 160?

I can't comment much on the noise because I was playing music but I can attest the car was very composed.

One of the most prominent memories I have from my 3 days at the PC last February is how well these cars - all BMWs, not just 6ers - handle as you approach the limit. We were doing crazy handling maneuvers where we were chucking these cars around the track at decent speed and they felt amazingly stiff, composed, and capable. Like the safety features, many may never truly experience the car's full potential, but if you find yourself in the situation where you need it, it will save your a$$ and be reaffirmed that the high prices pay for more than peeled cows, lots of horses, jaw-dropping beauty.

Are the PC cars equipped with ARS, DCC, and IAS systems, or simply passive sport suspensions?

Depends on the car. From what I learned while there, they order there cars specifically for the PC like a very, very well connected customer would This way they can do things like order a couple manual M5s to supplement their DCT M5 fleet. The variety also allows them match the car to the customer to a closer degree by having different builds available for PCD. I think they build the 1ers, 3ers, and M cars pretty much the same (mechanically anyway) for consistency's sake during the courses. The cars occasionally get shuffled and changed (like when yours truly interrupted the wet rat race sans DSC because I knocked the tire off the rim - pretty impressive, I thought ), so driving cars that behave differently would be detrimental in some of the training exercises.
