3rd Drivetrain Malfunction
Well I'm driving home about 30 minutes ago, and on the freeway the car starts shuddering slightly, more of a vibration. This is the 3rd time this error has happened, the first time it was a cylinder coil in #5 that had to be replaced, second time it was an o2 sensor(?).
I'm getting very irritated this is happening, its shuddering each time. Is the car trying to go into limp home mode? I turned the car off and on, and the error went away, as did the shuddering. At what point does this classify as a lemon? ![]() Thanks for your help Chris

I think you should see if BMW will do a trade assist, if you want to try another BMW. Else ask for a buy back.

Sorry to hear that. This happened to us as well -- during our ED. We pulled over, stopped and started and drove just fine after that. BMW is supposed to go over the car when it arrives in the US at VPC so hopefully it gets fixed. Lots of threads with this issue on a variety of BMW models.

my car has been at the dealer for 1 week for this issue. I'm supposed to get it back tomorrow. SA told me fuel injector replaced and also some vent was cracked. But this is the 2nd time it has been in the shop for this shuddering problem. Turning off the car and turning it back on again, clears it up and no error is stored about why the drivetrain malfunction displayed in the first place.

That's alot of drama for a vehicle with that few miles. Since I would assume this could be considered an issue that could result in bodily harm, you should be covered under the CA lemon law:
The same problem results in a condition that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven and the problem has been subject to repair two or more times by the manufacturer or its agents, and the buyer or lessee has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair of the problem as provided in the warranty or owner's manual or (2) The same problem has been subject to repair four or more times by the manufacturer or its agents and the buyer has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair of the problem as provided in the warranty or owner's manual o
