x5 sequential selector is tough - thoughts?

Hi all - sorry if there are similar threads but I could not find any to bump

Wondering if anyone has had this problem and knows the answer. x5 auto box, with the usual sequential function over to the left

tapping forward to change down a gear is fine, nice and smooth, clicky feeling, but pulling back to go up a gear is real tough, you have to get your weight behind it, it doesnt go back the full range or "click" at the end of the range

it works, it shifts up, and from what I can tell there are no issues with the gear changes themselves or the normal auto function

but just wondering what this is and what the solution is.... BMW centres are referring me away to auto-box specialists who are not familiar with the issue (so far)

is this a biggie, is it the gearbox, is it just the shifter? All input very appreciated
