Hey guys,
My dash cluster works fine, but no dashboard light its dark. Took cluster out replaced 3 bulbs, no effect. Dimmer switch? Cluster board itself? Info would be great! |

I don't know if this will help but I just resolved an electrical issue with my AC by pulling a bad fuse in the fuse box in the front fuse box in the engine compartment and replacing it with a new one. I ended up having to pull all the fuses one by one to see which one related to the problem. When I located the correct fuse, the fuse didn't even look bad at all, but when I put a new one in (#27), my AC problem resolved itself and the AC started working again. 94 530i is the car.
You might want to check all of them in that front box and you can get a pack of replacement fuses at Wal-Mart for about $5 that will replace every fuse in there. Anyway, I'm not sure exactly which fuse would correspond that that light but looking at Bentley's for the "internal lights," those correspond to fuses # 5,17, 18, 20, 21 and 30. Then corresponding to the "lamp monitor" are fuses #1,2,3,4,5,7,10,11,13,14,15. Corresponding to the "instrument cluster" are fuses #1,15,17,20,29. There is some crossover, as you may have noticed. I don't know if that'll work but it's probably the easiest and least expensive thing to do, if you haven't yet. The only thing is that if you try out all those other fuses and still want to look at #30, you have to pull up the back seat cushion and the #30 fuse is located next to the fusebox that is located underneath the back seat cushion. Good luck! |

If you have a wiring diagram check to see if you get 12v on the feed wire(s) to the dash cluster and check the lamp earth wire (if separate to others). If 12v and earth good carefully inspect tracks on rear of cluster for damage etc.

15 amp #5, 6 or 7 I think. Also check wiring to headlights and parking lights. When mine did this the insulation on the front right parking light leads was melted and causing a short. Resoldered and heat shrink and no more problems.
