When i tried to pair it with my phone, it showed the key on idrive screen so that you can put it on your phone, but i have a 2009 535, so it may be different.
have you tried the manual?

if you dnt have the owners manual with tcu sticker you will need to hook up a bmw tester and look in TCU status request.

I just had to re-pair my phone tonight in my 06 530xit.. I got them both partway thru the process, and my phone asked me to give it a key, and the car asked me to give it a key. Neither one had a fixed number, so I typed 123456 on both, and it paired up. I've done bluetooth headphones with the phone before, which had a fixed code of 0000, so this was a little unusual with both devices allowing me to type my own code.

Pairing process should ask you to enter a 4 digit code, there is no specific preset code! The same code need to be entered on phone when it prompts for the passcode. Should be user setup key at the beginning of the process. I had 2006 and have 2009 5 series, should be the same!

Where's Bluetooth Passkey for 2007 550i?

Thanks for the response, I kept working at it and finally learned you don't need a passkey after the 2004 models, so I followed the directions in the manual and it took off.

Bluetooth uses mutual authentication, which uses the same key on both sides. For our cars this is determined by you at the time of pairing - as long as both sides agree on the # they will pair up. Some devices, such as headsets, come with a fixed code #. In this case, instead of both devices using a shared code that you define, 1 device (usually a phone) needs to enter a factory-set code while the other device (usually a headset) has a button to accept the connection for permanent pairing, or where it is only paired while in "pairing mode" - thus, another phone cannot pair with the headset even they know the default code (usually 0000).
