anti-lock brake light on

After fixing a broken wire on the anti-lock brake sensor. I don't know who to reset the the anti-lock light on dash back to a normal state. I have a 1986 325 base BMW could or would someone be able to help me. Is their a special tool I need to purchase. Just to reset a oil light cost me 85.00 dollars. Help me please.

Wow you got screwed on the oil light. http://www.noren.com/bmw/e30reset.htm
I do mine with a paper clip.
As for the ABS light you could always disconnect your battery, hold down the brake pedal down for a minute to discharge all energy from the system. Then connect it back up.

Thanks for your reply. I just hate resetting the radio but will give it a shot. Plus for resetting the oil light on dash. How did you do it with a paper clip.?

Make sure all 4 wheel sensors are good and no frayed wires. MAybe even take each one out and clean all the metal bits stuck on the magnets. If all the wires are good and the sensors look ok and you STILL have a light pull down the knee panel over the pedals and look at the silver control unit and there will be a silver relay clipped on top. Take relay out and verify the wrap around wire is intact. if not take a single strand of some decent gauge wire and resolder a new strand in.

If you still have a light then I have step 3, only a last resort.

Thanks for your inform. Getting dark here now and I don't have a lift in my garage. But I will do it tomorrow. Newman 271 has a diagram which looks good to reset light on dash. I will do what you suggest first. Thanks Swiss! Hope to text back successful friend!

My car thankfully doesn't have ABS lol. I only know this works from me owning close to 25 other cars through my 10 years of driving ha.

Well it doesn't work on e30's bro, the ABS control unit resets itself every time you start the car and soon as you start rolling if it detects a break/variance in the signal it triggers the light.

what I meant was that on any of the other cars that I've had ABS issues with, it works. My advice to this guy is to take the bulb out of the ABS light and learn to brake fast without it. Normally if all the sensors have been replaced then the next options for problems dramatically jump up in price.

Relays are pricey?

If you think so I told you how to repair the relay, then the abs will work.

So your ABS fix is to take out the bulb.....

How would you fix SS?

If its a relay problem.. could be the abs module or pump. Could even be something as stupid as a proportioning valve or something along those lines. Again I haven't messed with the ABS on a e30 so I can't say for sure but in my experiences it never as a easy as changing a relay. But hopefully it is for this guy.

As for SS, im assuming social security, I would bump the age to 68 for any one under 60 now. After that, I would set it up so every 10 years the age automatically increases 1 year to account for the over aging population living too long.
