GPS display screen 2001 X%
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can someone help me?? I have posted before. The long and the short of the problem. My wife left the headlights on and the battery went dead. It was jump started and after being jump started the display screen does not (work) show the GPS or anything for that matter. The radio does work and the buttons change the channels. It is frustrating because I can not see what radio station I am on or I can not use the GPS because the screen is out. Can anyone help? Please... I do not have the $130 to pay a "diagnostic fee" at BMW. I have checked the fuses and they appear to be functioning correctly. If someone knows which ones I should change I will try that. Thanks, John benny224@aol.com |

When you jump started the car... was your radio and GPS display on at the time? I know it's a possibility that you could have hurt the OBC.
The components in this nav system are surprisingly fragile and can be damaged easily by voltage issues, such as dead batteries or jump starts, so, you are unfortunately almost certainly dealing with component failure in this case. There are two components which could be the cause here. The navigation computer in the luggage compartment which generates the image that is sent to the screen I the dash, and the actual screen itself. If the navigation computer fails you will often get the audio also cutting in and out, but this does not conclusively rule out the nav computer. One other thing you can do is try to reset the system by unhooking the vehicle's battery for one hour, however, I am not optimistic that this will help. Should you want to attempt this, make sure you wait a full 20min after the key is removed from the ignition before doing so, or unhooking the battery can lead to the voltage related issues. If doing so I would suggest ensuring that your battery if fully charged as well. Hope that helps... ~Mud~ |

Thank you.....
I forgot to include when I posted earlier thta I did disconnect the battery for 20-30 minutes.
I will look into the other issue you brought up. My wife had the car when it was jump started. so there is only a 50-50 chance the radio was on. Again I thank you. John |
