hey guys need some help.. I have a 05 745i NAVI02 i need the cd or dvd for it... i live in new england and right now it has a florida disk in it.. i checked and it does have the firmware 8.4.4

You should be using the 'High" DVD and not the 'Professional' I'm sure if you got it from the dealer then you have the right one.

The DVD/CD drives are a common failure, My NAVI01 died and I have since replaced it with a NAVI03.

You could try cleaning the lens, there is a fan in the NAV unit and it sucks loads of dust through the unit and alot gets deposited on the DVD/CD and lens itself, the disc in my NAVI01 had been in there 9 years! it was filthy!

Worth a try, I would keep an eye out for a replacement on ebay, I waited ages and got my NAVI03 for $250 which was pretty good!

• Scroll down a few pages until "Software Version" is displayed.

If version is 8.4.4 hex, then your system is NAVI02 which already had the latest firmware. Nothing needs to be done. Skip the rest.

If version is 9.x.x hex, but not 9.8.2 hex, then your system is NAVI03. Proceed to the next step.

E65, E66 NAVI01 (CD-drive): later version is 7.3.2 (not applicable here)
E65, E66 NAVI02 (DVD-drive): latest version is 8.4.4 hex
E65, E66 NAVI03 (DVD-drive): latest version is 9.8.2 hex

Step 2: Download the latest firmware V32

Note that V32 is the latest released firmware from BMW.
BMW engineers stopped producing upgrade for E65/E66 after 03/2008.
There are many other versions V32.1 or V32.2 floating around on the net.
They are customized firmware, not the genuine BMW released firmware.

Alternatively, you can buy this firmware CD from the dealer.
This is the product number: P/N 01 59 0 141 891 index "y"


Step 3: Burn firmware (cue or bin) to a CD (or DVD)

You will need a single blank CD-R 700MB, not CD-RW.
Specified write speed 48x or 52x is not really important.
Verbatim and Memorex are reliable brands.
Other brands such as Maxell, Imation, TDK, or Sony are just fine.

For Windows users, you can use Nero Burning or freeware such are ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/).

For Mac users, you can user Burn (http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html).

Burn at the lowest speed 1x to 4x if possible.
Always verify the image to make sure the burn was good.

Step 4: Install the firmware

This is the official instructions from BMW SI B65 21 02:

• Insert the key fob into Ready state. Do not start the car.
• Enter the navigation menu.
• Remove the road map DVD.
• Insert the navigation operating software CD V32 into the navigation unit.
• Select "Yes" with the controller to install the software.
• The software will then load in two steps, taking approximately 10-15 minutes.
• Do not touch the iDrive while the software is loading.
• When the installation is finished, the CD will be ejected. The message "Installation Successful, Remove Software loading CD and press OK" will appear. At this point, select "OK" with the controller.
• The navigation system will then "Reinitialize".
• When prompted, insert the road map DVD.
• Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged. DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE IGNITION DURING UPDATE PROGRESS, otherwise you'll kill your navi.

Question will this process update the map or this will only update the Firmware if so what does the Firmware do?

Think of it this way:

Your navigation system is a computer. Firmware is the operating system. The operating system won't change the pictures saved in the computer.

Ok I understand so how can I get and update DVD map disc? Can I download a copy and of North America or The USA

eBay is the way to go.

New member here I have a 2006 750LI and trying to update my Navigation system. (hd750Li) I have followed your instruction to a T I have downloaded the cue and bin files to a cd-r and a dvd-r. But after following the instruction and get to the point of putting the firmware disk in. Once inserted all my screen say's is please insert cd/dvd? Kind of at a lost here could you possible tell me where I'm going wrong here?

Try to insert that CD/DVD to a laptop or desktop to see if it can be read. My guess is the burn did not write data successfully to the disk. Or the disk was bad!

Ok I think I see what I was doing wrong but we do need both files the cue and bin file correct?

Sorry I reread your instructions it was either or lol let you know if I done it right going to try to update the Navi now.

If you use ImgBurn, you only need one file. However you will need to download both cue and bin. The burning software is smart enough to select the right one.

Question, I have a 2007 - 750Li with E66 NAVI03 that needs the v32 software update. I found a 2013 Eastern High version map on e-Bay. Will I need to update to v32 in order to use the new map DVD disc? And if so, in order to make the v32 software update Disc, do I simply download both files and burn both to the disc and just put it in the Navigation DVD drive? Finally, if you know, will I need some type of access code for the Map DVD disc from e-Bay or do I simply get the disk and use it? I know it is allot of information I'm asking but I really do appreciate it.

Follow the instructions to know whether you need firmware update or not. Though update is optional. No, you don't need access code.
