I mean this seriously.
A leaf blower and armor-all.

Tried and true.

I believe there is a two step process in caring for your fabric convertible top. Cleaning is just the first step, followed by conditioning.

I just completed the task and here's what I did. I washed the top with Ivory soap, (no phosphates) using a soft nylon brush. Don't scrub too hard. After letting it dry thoroughly, I then applied 303 to the fabric, overlapping and letting it dry between the two applications.

You have to mask off the windshield, side windows, back window, and all adjacent painted surfaces, as the conditioner is something that when it dries, is difficult to remove. You also have to do it on a calm day as any breeze will blow the stuff everywhere.

I would give my results a B-/C+. If I had it to do over again, I would get a price from a local detailer that uses Raggtop. I think the Raggtop products, both cleaner and conditioner are superior to my method, although the Raggtop kit (available at Amazon) ain't cheap.

My top doesn't see a lot of rain, but with the 303, it still absorbs the water. That was the way the top was designed, so the water beading that you might get on single layer tops is not that big an issue. Best of luck.

I have used Raggtopp for rear window protection and Raggtopp for the soft top.

It doesn't rain very much here in Las Vegas, so I waited all summer until the start of the 'rainy season'. I purchased the cleaner and conditioner at my dealer (Desert BMW) and followed the simple directions. Washed the top with the cleaner as I was washing the car and while the top was still wet, applied the conditioner liberally with a clean sponge. Let the car dry overnight in the garage. It rained the very next day, so I got to see the results immediately. Sure enough, the water just beaded up and rolled off, as advertised. Simple process...did not have to mask anything off, since I was washing the car anyway. There is enough conditioner left in the bottle for at least two more treatments.

I get my top cleaner for fabric tops from my BMW Dealership at the parts dept. It is the best top cleaner I have ever used. Most of the top cleaners on the market are for plastic tops not fabric tops and they will do nothing for a fabric top but make it look bad.

Recently did mine with the RaggTopp cleaner and conditioner. Don't drive in the rain as a rule, but when I did get caught out, the water beaded on the top. Check out the detailing portion of the blog, they have similar responses, but after doing research on this site, I ended up with the product mentioned above.

Has someone used both?
If so, which do you prefer and why, BMW or RaggTopp?

I have to second this. Dick at Roadster Solutions has been a long term sponsor of the ZSCCA.

Can't speak to the ragg top but the BMW products are really good, used a semi stiff brush when cleaning and the top came out looking really good, reversed a lot of the shiny marks from rubbing against itself and the bodywork. Plus they smell REALLY good
