Proper Primary/Lower Cahin Tensioner for 11/95 M3?

Hi guys. I thought this should be fairly simple, but I haven't been able to find an answer by searching...

I have an 11/95 build date M3 with the S50 of course, and as I'm replacing my Vanos, I decided to replace the primary and secondary chain tensioners along with the chain guide.

BUT when I pull out my Primary Chain Tensioner, I realize this was installed in my 11/95 S50 M3: The one with the flat piston that is supposed to fit on the S52's.

11-31-7-838-675-M9 Chain Tensioner for Crankshaft to Exhaust Cam Chain (also use sealing washer 07-11-9-963-418-M131), M3 With 3.2L Engine (1996-99), Each, Brand: Genuine BMW
[More Info]

This is very confusing because I thought I ordered the CORRECT one below for my car: The one with the forked piston.

11-31-1-405-081-M40 Chain Tensioner for Crankshaft to Exhaust Cam Chain (also use sealing washer 07-11-9-963-418-M131), M3 With 3.0L Engine (1995), Each, Brand: Ina
[More Info] [Choose alternate brand]

I ordered this from drvanos.com...

Primary Tensioner
Newer style 2pc primary chain tensioner helps reduce chain noise on older models. Price: From $99.00

The only options were:

Forked Piston ('95 M3, 325 up to 8/94) $99
Flat Piston (96-'99 M3, 323, 325, 328, z3) $169

From their two options, I wasn't 1000% sure that their forked piston option included 95 M3's with build dates after 8/94 so I called and confirmed. So I ordered with confidence and now that I have both pistons in my hand, the flat piston that I pulled from my 11/95 M3 which is supposed to go on the S52's and not on the S50's, and the forked piston which is supposed to go on S50's...

Does this have anything to do with drvanos' description of the NEWER 2 piece Primary Chain Tensioner? Because the one I pulled from my S50 was the 3 piece one with the spring inside but with a flat piston...

SO my question is, Which one am I supposed to be using for my car?!?!?!

Thanks in advance. Cheers!
