E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Arrow my "new" 86 325E any advice??

hey, so this is the first and only bmw ive ever driven, and it was given to me through a string of karmic goodness. a friend of mine got a new car, gave his old one to another friend, and she gave her old car to me. luckily for me its a badass E30. on the down side, its kinda beat up, (hood smooshed in from a drunk backing into it, scratches and dings in the body, and the front seats and headliner are torn) but on the bright side, it runs great, makes me feel like a secret agent while im driving it, and the price was just right. a couple things i find strange about ol' elwood is the low beams wont come on independently of the brights. (i.e. all markers and tail lights come on, but headlights stay off until i push the high beam lever on the steering column forward.) all four headlamps were replaced, and the problem persists. also, the back passenger side shock (or strut. or springy thing. whatever you call it) seems to have broken through the body of the car and makes a weird clicking sound when the car bounces or is pushed down. im fairly confident i can fix this, but i know its one of the rust spots on the car to look out for.
Thats just about all i know in specifics but im sure theres a few more gremlins waiting to pop up. any advice would be awesome, and i look forward to making this thing last another 26 years (at least)

New light switch or dip switch required. Also some 'Brane Surgeon' (sic) PO may have 'repaired' the loom. Always good that someone wants to keep an E30 from the scrapper.

Hope you know a good body welder for the rear suspension.

so it turns out the strut mount bushing was broken. no rust in the housing,, but the shocks were toast.
Im trying to think of more projects to do to it, but im not sure whaat would improve the performance. what can i do with my exhaust??

If this is the 2.7, which I'm sure it is, my suggestion for performance would either be turbo or swap the motor. I did the M30B35 swap and turned the grocery getter to a much more enjoyable vehicle.
Exhaust alone would only change the tone of the vehicle..little to no performance gain. You'd have to: port polish the head(prolly 2.5 i swap the head), a legit cold air intake, headers, full exhaust, and computer chip in order to see any type of feelable gains. IMO too much money for what you get out of it.
The 2.7's with a 2.5i head is considered a "stroker motor" but you'd have to do a wire harness and cpu swap in order to use the double valve springs on the "i" head. The 053 ecu (im sure is what your using) had a rpm cutoff before 5k, so you wouldn't float valves with the single spring on the 2.7. The later years had a much higher rev limit.
