My TPS readings are 1.09ohm (closed) - 4.26ohm (fully opened) with no variance in between. So it looks like its ok. |

I really wish I (or anyone) had some definitive reason for why and which cars need to have the pedal pressed.

How the hell do you understand what number is being shown.. Does one blink mean one and two blinks mean two?

I believe that is code 1000 which is what must be present to clear the codes by pressing and holding the accelerator for 10 seconds.
The only thing I can think of is that your stomp succession may have been too fast. You may want to slow it just a tad and see if you get a different result. If not, then I would go ahead and clear the codes and see if any come back when you crank and drive the car again. Hope this helps.

Hello, I'm having trouble with my 525i 1995. I try the stomp test and nothing happens? Why is that happening?

If the bulb is burned out and you don't want to pull the instrument cluster to replace it at the moment, you can see if someone you know has a code reader for the OBD I BMWs. That instrument can read the codes regardless of the CEL bulb. Another remote possibility is that the DME (engine management computer) itself may be bad. However, there are many other things to consider and rule out before you come to that conclusion. Hopefully for you, the DME is not bad. On the 95 models, there is a drive away protection system called EWS II. It is a pain in the butt when it fails. Fortunately there are a couple of easy and inexpensive fixes. That can be looked at later if your DME is deemed to be faulty. We don't want to get the horse before the cart.

The check engine light dose come on when the key is in.

How could you check the Ews II?

You need to remove the cluster and replace the bulb then.
EDIT: My mistake I just realized you live in Georgia. If its not the one in the United States then you do NOT have a check engine light. Therefore you cannot perform the stomp test. It is a US model only thing. Last edited by paperplane94; 10-31-2012 at 11:34 AM. |

You need to make a new thread for this, explaining the situation.

If the check engine light comes on with ignition key in position #2, then your stomp test should work.
It can be difficult to do it the first time. Watch the video in the thread and keep trying. Once you get it, you'll wonder why it seemed so hard at first

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...ght=ews+delete Again, you will need to rule out all other possibilities like the CPS, fuel pump, fuel pump relay etc., etc. The Bentley manual has a good trouble shooting guide in it. If your brother (I think that's who you said would be helping you) is not very familiar with BMWs, you may want to try to find a good local independent BMW mechanic with a good reputation and have him take a look at it. Good luck.

Agreed. As you may recall, my engine would crank over fine, just no fuel or spark and it ulimately turned out to be a faulty DME. Since her car is the 95 with EWS II, and if her DME is bad, she will have to do the EWS bypass and red label DME swap. Perhaps the EWS delete chip would work, but I don't have a high degree of confidence if the DME itself is bad.
