1991 525i Low beams intermitent

Most of the time after 5-10 minutes of headlight use the low beams die. Switching to high beams usually gets us to our destination. Sometimes wiggling the high/low switch on the steering column brings the low beams back, sometimes it kills high & low beams until more wiggling is done. Does anyone have useful suggestions of what to check? I have both analog and digital multimeters & good understanding of basic electricity. Thanks in advance to all with suggestions.

Either the hi/low switch or the relays are failing. Switch sounds more likely. Check for contact alignment and positive switch action.

Light Kontrol module (LKM) ? Either that or you switch lever is faulty.

Please google and download the e34 bentley manual there might be useful tips there and its highly relevant to the diyer in general.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am leaning more towards the LKM or relays as the low beams almost always work when headlights are first turned on. They usually work for 5-10 minutes before dying & having to use the high beams.

Resoldered relay connections on main pcb of the LKM. Drove 15-20 minutes including a couple blocks of pot holes. All seems well. www.bmwe34.net had great step by step w/pix. 8-)

We should create a sticky thread with obscure problems and naturally obscure solutions listed, detailed, or at least referred to via an additional link. Over time, this would become the master thread that people would screen for problems first. Or perhaps it can be stashed into the maintenance thread.
