Good news on additional M Sport package contents!

I ordered my 2013, 328i with the M sport line. I didn't want black interior, so the only other choice for the no charge, leatherette was tan. I was trying to keep the price down and the vinyl (leatherette) side bolsters on my 10 year old, Audi A4 still look new. Not a scuff or a single wrinkle after 110k miles. So, I thought I'd be happy with the tan leatherette. In the end, the thought of the coral red leather was too much to resist and I called my dealer to change the order to the $1450 optional leather. He emailed me two days later to tell me that there was a mistake on the BMWUSA builder. He said the M Sport Line included leather at ne extra charge!!! I was prepared to pay about $43 a month extra on my lease and now it's free. For people who don't think the M Sport Line is worth the $3850, I think this is yet another reason to say it's a bargain.

+1 - get ready for your dealer to change his story very shortly. Leather is not included on the M Sport line. Did you happen to order the premium package? Leather is included in the ZPP.

Agree. It sounds like another clueless dealer, but I've seen too many of them in my neck of the woods, so I can't say I am surprised.

Hmmmm my 2012 M Sport pkg was $2,800, I guess the M sportline included a few more items. I also got the zpp. I'll take a look at the 2013 M sportline pkg and see whats different, maybe it includes the sport and comfort modes. I tried the 2013 and didn't care for the comfort mode as it shakes the car when you are come to a stop. I guess you can just avoid the comfort or economy mode and stay in the sport mode.

Take a look at the BMW Pricing guide, it clearly shows leather as a $1450 additional cost -

http://www.bimmerfest.com/pdf/2013-BMW-F30-Retail.pdf

The BMWUSA online configurator is not always correct so consulting the pricing guide and ordering guide is your best bet.

Shakes the car when you come to a stop? This does not sound normal unless you are referring to the Auto Start/Stop feature which turns the engine off so you no longer feel the engine vibration sitting in neutral at a stand still until you engage the clutch then the engine starts up again. This happens in all modes unless you turn off Auto Start/Stop.

There was no M Sport package for MY 2012 models (if I recall correctly), you got the Sport Line, which is totally different. Sport line is $2500 for 2013, can't remember what it cost for 2012.

You can't really compare your 2012 E92 coupe option packages to a 2013 F30 sedan. For one thing E92 coupes have the sport suspension as standard equipment.

And it's a 335i. At least for the F30, sport/M sport costs less on the 335i since it already has 18" wheels standard.

Tim, sorry for the confusion but I'm new to BMW's. On Oct. 13th I leased a 2012 335i Coupe with the M-Sport package and several other packages. The (zm2) M-Sport pkg. was $2800. I believe my car is a F32 with a N55 engine (Turbo) I don't yet know what a E92 is. Would appreciate your Expertese, thanks.

I hope the dealer is correct. I was prepared to pay the $1450. I thought it was good news for us all. I hope I'm not spreading incorrect information. I'll let you all know.

Glad to have you in the BMW family. Your 2012 model is the outgoing generation E92, coupe, as is the new 2013 model.

The new generation coupe will be the F32 and will be a 2014 model, which will come to market sometime between March - October 2013. BMW introduces the sedans first with each new generation, then the coupes and 'verts 12 - 24 months later.

I should have looked at your profile to see you were driving a coupe. A quick run down on BMW 3 series chassis codes -

E90 - Previous gen 3 series sedan, last model year (MY) 2012.
F30 - Current gen 3 series sedan, started production as MY 2012, we're currently in MY 2013

E92 - Current gen 3 series coupe, being produced until summer of 2013 as MY 2013. This is what you have.
F32 - Next gen 4 series coupe. Starts production summer of 2013 as a MY 2014. BMW is changing the 3 series coupe into a 4 series so there will no longer be a 3 series coupe.

The chassis codes are just a way for enthusiasts to quickly identify the generation of a car. So instead of saying you have a 5th gen 3 series, you just say E92 and everyone knows you have a 3 series coupe produced from 2007 - 20013.

Make sense?

Tim

That is just an F30 335i M Sport with a bunch of M Performance Parts. You can get those in the US -

And you can get them port installed -

If you really want to know about different BMW models and chassis codes (E92 and F30 for example), the first place to start would be to just look at the BMW Model Discussion home page, http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1.

For more in-depth information on each model and chassis code, see Wikipedia. The 3 Series page is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series. This will have info on all six generations of the 3 Series.
