The end of a long journey. My ED happened today.
Folks, this is my 3rd BMW, but first ED. It's been a looong road from reading everything I can about the new 3er, to road tripping it to the Detroit Auto Show, to finding a CA I could trust, to ordering the car. I took delivery of my 328xi today and had the kind of day you just wanna bottle, and bring it out from time to time for a little sip. Guys, seriously, if you ever thought about doing a European Delivery, don't think anymore. Do it. It really is an amazing experience, too amazing to even begin to explain in a condensed form here.
I won't bore you with all the details, most of them have been mentioned from time to time, but I just want to say "Thank you" to all the 'festers who've helped me throughout the year. A special shout out to the two Marks and Justin who endured my newbie questions and guided me through the process. Finally to my CA, Greg, if ya want a great, no hassle deal, he's been terrific. Guys, feel free to PM me for info. I'll try to do for you what these guys did for me. "ED" is not a men's health problem, it's the cure for the common car! I hope you all get the disease. Congrats and I know exactly what you mean and how you feel about the whole experience. I will never buy a new BMW another way after my ED in 2010.

On a side note, I drove the heck outta this car today over and through the mountains of Austria. It's plenty quick, is quite nimble, and is easy on the gas tank. So far, it's lived up to the hype...and so has the German beer! One last thing...get the Xenons. They really light it up, and they just look damn cool. Adding my congratulations, but just have to ask: in your delivery pic, there seems to be someone in the background, surrounded by an outline box. What gives?

Yeah, I've gotten that question a number of times, but no, she's not.
![]() I just returned from my ED, and it was sensational. I learned a lot, drove a lot, and eat and drank a lot. We've already determined we'll be doing another one in three years. There are few things in life that are certain, but there are a few. Such as: 1) German engineered cars are simply the best in terms of evoking a passion in its owners. 2) Lufthansa's customer service is without peer. I mean it stands out amongst all the rest. 3) Nothing beats Italian food, German beer, and French wine. It's all you need to thrive. 4) Nothing is more harrowing than driving your new BMW in Lake Como, Italy. NOTHING! 5) As great a country as the US is, driving your own car, on the Autobahn, at triple-digit speeds, through the Dolomites, is a sublime experience. If you haven't done it, you should. Guys, I've got well over a thousand pictures to sort through, and then I'll post some more of my European Delivery. So much planning, so much anticipation, so much fun, and then it's over before you know it. I can't wait to do it again. And now the 6-week wait begins. |

Do you drive a Citation X? If so, do they really high cruise at .92? Man, what a bird !!

Yes, I do. And yes, they really do .92M. There are others that are bigger and more luxurious, but for pure speed, this airplane does what it was designed to do, namely go fast.

I was very fortunate to get a lift in a Citation X from FCA to NEW a year ago as the C500 had avionics issues. I have a few hours in a C500 and 4,000+ hours in pistons. I like speed, and the X is the epitome of fast air travel
Glad you enjoyed your ED; we're planning our 12th BMW ED for next July - as soon as MY14 production begins on M6 verts. Dick

Congratulations!
Is that picture of George Bush on top of your car? It sort of looks like it, but if you zoom in, I think it looks like a placard standing behind the car.

That's a good question. I've had a bunch of people ask me about this guy in the background of the picture. Who he is and why BMW had a photo of him in that particular place is a mystery to me, as well. I'm sure one of our 'festers with a keen eye can fill us in.
